Ever wished for Disney to make another movie like Atlantis: The Lost Empire and Treasure Planet?

I do wish, but I'd prefer a better film, similar problem with those other two.

I saw this on Tuesday night before heading to work and like you I find it good but not great. I was worry about the movie itself with either lack of promotions as Disney is too busy with Black Panther 2 and Avatar 2, waiting to come out on Disney+ to see how that doing over how it gonna do in theaters, and maybe the movie itself in terms of storytelling maybe not all that good. After watching it, I was right about maybe all three of them because it one of their weaker lineups to ever came out from Disney Animation in veins of Disney sequels like Frozen 2. The story was weak with it complicated plot and too many thanks to a weak script, the humor wasn’t funny, the themes were annoying, and characters not memorable although I don’t hate all, they could’ve been written better. Everything else looked great from the world building, animation, voice acting, diversity including having a gay son, music by Henry Jackman, and action scenes too. Overall, it is good but not great as the execution came out weak expected. To be fair, sci fi has always been a tough sell when it comes to Disney leans toward that particular genre to the medium of animation so I can’t blame them in selling that idea towards their target audiences. I would pretty much rather see Atlantis or Treasure Planet than mainly because of nostalgia but in hot take, I would take this over Raya or even Lightyear considering that latter leans towards that sci fi element but weak execution except it much more worst than this. Overall, this is a weak year for Disney when it comes to their animated films this year with Turning Red easily the biggest one they got and that one was months. I just hope next year like Elementals and Wish can be better than what we got this year from Disney.

Well I could just wait out the Disney+ release.

Honestly I didn't called it to say it's not a great film, yet I kinda did on this one. Like you know it going to be a mediocre film when not even the trailer is appealing. Yeah I like the world building of it all, but it's the characters that keep losing my interest every time I see a trailer. Which what makes it bad to say that even Elementals had more of an impact then this, World building, characters, and everything! However I'm not slamming this entirely, I'm just happy at least it's not terrible and it seems like it has enough positives to even be considered good. So for the time being I'll just wait till this is on Disney+ and we'll see how it is than.

Yeah, this seems OK. I most likely will just wait until it’s out on Disney+. By the way, nice bait-and-switch at the end.

Are you reviewing Disenchanted as well?

Justin Monti

Yeah, this was honestly not a great film, while I do still think it’s a good film, it’s easily one of Disney’s weaker films in recent years. The story and the characters aren’t that great, but the animation is absolutely beautiful, so yeah it’s good but definitely the weakest film from Disney Animation in recent years. I am at least hoping we can see a bit better from Disney next year with movies like Elemental and Wish.

Kenneth Stoddard

No, you wait you got it wrong. I like Turning Red and I thought it was great. I was trying to make comparisons between that film and Lightyear and Strange World which Turning Red received critical acclaim from critics and audiences while the other two didn’t get that as they received mediocre positive response that ends up making Disney’s year of animation to be weak. If I have put down or saying something that confuse you to think I don’t like Turning Red, I am so sorry.
