I know it was technically last weekend, but welcome to my Halloween week! Weird I know, but it's mainly because I'm going to a late-Halloween party this weekend and even my work is reflecting that with my latest review. I've already done some festivities to celebrate this year like watching Hocus Pocus 2 (which was fine. Not a great movie, but it knows what people want and it delivers), but the main highlight was, of course, the new Key & Peele demons! I've done other stuff too, but let's truly cap off Halloween with this blog.

- Released my review of Wendell & Wild: Out of all the animated films I've reviewed (at least in recent years), this was honestly to get the AniMat's Seal of Approval, but just missed it. Of course, I really enjoyed this picture and there are a lot of elements that really did work beautifully well to mark the great comeback of Henry Selick. However, I do acknowledge that it's not perfect and that story was just all over the place with all those side plots happening at the same time. It really was on the verge of going either 8/10 or 9/10. I probably would've given this an 8.5/10, but I gotta stay true to my system to determine a fair score. After a lot of careful thought and relistening to my own words on the film, I ultimately determined that 8/10 makes more sense for this movie. Either way, I still think it's great and definitely a new addition to my Halloween watchlist.

- Watching Episodes of the next Series Review: I've kept myself busy this week with some other duties I have to do, including producing more TikTok videos (and starting to enter into the world of YouTube Shorts with them) and auditioning for potential voice over work. But the main thing that I've done this week was going through the rest of the episodes I needed to watch for the next series review. I took a break to make time for my Wendell & Wild review, but when that was out of the way, that's when I got binging. There were dozens of episodes I had to go through and I only did a quarter of it all last week. But then I rolled up my sleeve and made sure that all my watching time would be done this week so that I can get ready for the actual review itself. Admittedly, it was not easy to go through all those hours, but at least I'm finally ready to put all that binging into good use with this review. I think it's safe to say that I know what I'll be doing next week.

And that was my binging week and having some leftover spookiness in early November. Now that we're done with Halloween, we can temporarily put things back to normal during the calm before the holiday storm. The Mariah Carey memes are already breaking into social media, so make the most out of your Fall time while you can. So, until next time...

See ya later, dudes!

I can respect being honest with the score. Still glad it came out.

I actually enjoyed Hocus Pocus 2. Sure, it probably won’t be on the same level as the original since the original’s already established as a Halloween classic, but compared to decades later-released sequels like Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Ghostbusters: Afterlife, I felt like it put in more effort to feel like a legit sequel and not to much to rehash the original film and I did like how they expanded the Sanderson Sisters to explore their origin and add an emotional side to Winnie where we see despite her annoyance and frustration at her sisters lack of competence, she does care for them and does needs them in helping her accomplish her plan. But I’m glad you had a decent time. Better to have a decent time with a decent film than a bad time with a bad film.

Personally, I actually really enjoyed Hocus Pocus 2 and thought it was a solid sequel to the original, while I don’t think it’s as good as the original but compared to other sequels that happen decades after the original, it at least tried to feel like a sequel while also capturing the spirit of the original, while I will admit the story isn’t the greatest and some of the characters aren’t really that well written, I do think the Sanderson Sisters steal the show once again like in the original and are really fun to watch, the musical numbers they do with them in this movie are in my opinion really fun to listen to and are almost on par with “I Put a Spell on You” from the original. And I really like how it develops the Sanderson Sisters a lot more especially with exploring their origins story and especially how it does develop Winnie as a character where deep down she cares about her sisters and needs them. So honestly, while not as good as the original, I still thought it was a solid follow up to an almost 30 year old movie.
