BACKGROUND:  This plot was aimed solely at the comic series, and not the animated series, I'm pretty sure. With the plot of the original Funky Flashman/Goody Rickles episode barely commented on, I doubt we would have tried with those characters again. Unless, and this is possible, we tagged the "sequel" to Get Funky onto the original pitch as a bonus idea. Now that I think of it, why would we even try to pitch a Funky/Goody story to DC when there's no way they'd clear Don Rickles, let alone Funky Flashman in fear of offending the great man and his manic mass of minions? Who knows. My memory certainly has no idea.

Either way, obviously this never saw the light of day as an episode or an issue of the Adventures comic. This could have been a fun, violent romp. Also, a niche-within-niches, a take on those old TV sitcom episodes where a character like Herman Munster or Lurch becomes a pop icon. Maybe that's where the idea came from, dredged up from the back of my pop-culture soaked childhood brain-within-a-brain?

PLOT SUMMARY

Unable to secure the promotional consent of Superman or even "that skinny little Supergirl chickie", Funky Flashman goes for the next semi-best thing -- Bizarro! The funky one gets a hold of the super-throwback and begins to exploit the super-throwback hoping it will bring a jealous Superman "to his senses". But to Funky's surprise (as well as everyone else's), Bizarro hits it big with teens and sends Metropolis into a veritable Bizarro tizzy, eclipsing the popularity of even Superman. Unfortunately, between the media, the adulation of the teens and Funky's aggressive promotion,"the Biz" becomes an egotistical jerk of truly epic proportions -- resulting in outbursts of celebrity bad boy behaviour that become more and more destructive. Soon Superman is forced to try to stop Bizarro's rampant starpower before the city that can't get enough of him gets way too much for it's own good. Can Metropolis survive a teen idol who doesn't just trash hotel rooms, but instead trashes entire hotel chains?
