Stumbled across whilst clearing folders off the long-dying Old PC are my Work Stages for a variant cover I drew for an early issue of the 2006 relaunch of Wildstorm/DC's Gen13, which was the iteration written by Gail Simone and drawn by, I think, Talent Caldwell.

I wanted to do a helluva lot more than just draw a variant cover for the Gen13 relaunch, but I had not the pull to even make a pitch for writing the title; plus, well, I had already ridden the original version of Gen13 into the dirt of cancellation (before the Chris Claremont relaunch in 2002, mind you), so my lack of appeal to DC was perhaps more than understandable.

The rough:

Note that most of my cover roughs are on letter-size 8.5" X 11" paper, so the top of the comic-size final page (and logo space) are left cropped off.

The cover's pencils, Photoshopped into high-contrast clarity:

Aaaaaaand the inks, done with my then-beloved Japanese Zebra "maru" pens, now lost to me due to tragic ink and paper-stock incompatibility:

That signature of mine at lower right is interesting, as I don't think I used that form very much.

TBH, I might have posted these Work Stages here before but, if I did so, that was years ago, so screw it, here they are again; and I didn't spot this cover under the Gen13 hashtag, so maaaaybe we're in the clear.

NEXT TIME ON THIS HERE PATREON: As this post attests, I'm rolling with every-weekday posts to finish off February. Good thing I just migrated a whole bunch of files off Dying Old PC for use here!

UPDATE: Ehh, will likely have to post something in the Distressed Damsels vein on Friday, though I'd like to do s'more Failed-Project Friday posts after unearthing an alarming number of forgotten pitches off Old PC. (I vaguely remembered the old Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Iron Man Adventures proposals, but had entirely forgotten about the weirdly ambitious Tomb Raider pitch; wellp, we can get to that stuff in March and beyond, I guess.)
