Behold, the shocking return of Failed-Project Friday, folks, possibly years after our previous installment! I'm kinda not sure what was going on with this particular one, TBH, which (judging by the files) dates back to the summer of 2006.

If I recall correctly, back then DC Comics was doing an odd product-placement comic of sorts titled Rush City, which featured the sporty-looking Pontiac Solstice as driven by, I assume, The Transporter-style badass fella Diego Zhao.

I apparently knew somebody in DC Editorial connected to the book, and was maaaaaybe trying to sleaze my way into working on the title? Alas, I no longer recall any specifics. Nothing came of this effort, of course, but I did produce some character designs and an oddly formatted comic/ storyboard(?) story excerpt, the first half of which is posted above; I'll post the complete Rush City scene on some future Friday.

I can say that Diego Zhao's character designs above are at least partially based on the same Japanese costume photoreference book that I sometimes use for the Empowered character Thugboy, on the sporadic occasions that I actually try to depict him as being of Japanese descent. Yay!

LATER THIS WEEKEND ON THIS HERE PATREON:  Bigger Spenders of the $10 & $20 tiers, stand by for your monthly  Exclusive Bonus Post for October, which will likely consist of a bunch  of Clip Studio Paint sketch sets based on your last few outstanding art reqs. Brace yourselves for Domme Emp & Sub Ninjette, Capitan Orangutan Rivet, Amos Burton photoreffed, Ocelotina cosplaying Slayers' Naga the Serpent, Emp swimsuit mishaps and more!

Sounds like DC was trying to emulate a Riding Bean/Gunsmith cats scenario for their own in house IP purposes...

Maybe if they'd hired you for the job, Pontiac wouldn't have gone bust.

Strong Riding Bean/Gunsmith Cats vibe in the action shots, yes. Nice.
