I'm presently working on stories from four different points in Empowered vol.12. Today, I finished work on a three-page "Emp in distress" sequence that bridges two existing story fragments. I'll insert the relevant pages below, and try to clarify what the hell you're reading.

First off, let's jump to the final page of a previously excepted sequence, with ended with bad guys admitting that they feel inexplicably compelled to bedamsel Emp, then taking off:

This scene continues with today's initial page, featuring the abandoned Emp having an epiphany:

Then a final close-up ends this scene (pardon the crappy bitmap lettering overlay, as I'm experiencing Photoshop know-how limitations):

The next page after that sounds the ol' "sad trombone," with a new text overlay over an inverted (white-on-black) version of the artwork:

And the two pages that follow in Empowered vol.12 are the ones that kick off the "Emp & Spooky safari" scene excerpted here months ago (though I might have to tinker with Emp's initial word balloon to bridge the sequences more smoothly):

Finally, here's that Emp close-up page without either of the text overlays:

And now, back to work on the apocalyptic opening scene from vol.12, which you Big Spenders of the $10 & $20 tiers had a peek at over the weekend. Wheeee!

TOMORROW ON THIS HERE PATREON: Back to those Dirty Pair character designs from 1998 (or so), this time featuring Y**i, whose name just happens to be the same as a famous Japanese term for explicit lesbian  content (and automatically gets flagged by Patreon when I spell it out).

Suddenly, the Supersuit's flakiness actually makes sense (said Mr. Late-To-The-Party)! It, too, is compelled by the curse (he said, fully expecting a chorus of "Durrrrs!")!

Either that, or the suit is actually punching SO far above its' weight, it's actually reversing a multiverse-altering curse, and is the reason Emp is actually clawing her way up to begrudging recognition in spite of a curse that was supposed to keep her as just a bondage magnet...

Thos. Merchant

Hmm. Interesting theory. But I think EMP's begrudging respect is coming from others seeing her grit, persistence and growing slate of victories. They're beginning to look past the bondage and the suit - and they're seeing her.

Thing is, I watched the Hobbit movies recently, and a certain exchange between Gandalf and Galadriel gave me vibes of Rivet and his view of EMP. And by extension, how her particular brand of heroism could be the last, best hope. "Saruman believes that only great power can defeat evil, but that's not what I have found. It's the small things. Everyday acts of kindness that keep the dark at bay. Simple acts of kindness and love. Why Bilbo Baggins? Perhaps it's because I'm afraid... And he gives me courage."

Fun fact: I just discovered that some medical supply company named one of their anesthesia machine models for the Australian market the Empowered (Dräger Primus® Infinity® Empowered or Dräger Zeus® Infinity® Empowered, to be more specific), and yes, it is equipped to dispense halothane. I suspect it's merely an amusing coincidence, but FWIW I do believe the comic came first, so technically it could be some German or Australian fan with a dodgy sense of humor.

"Yyyyyyyeah..... about that, Emp...."

I'm really waiting for when this shit hits the fan....
