Oh yeah our bodies are sooooo perfect, that includes all the vestigial parts, terrible senses, weak skin, and incredibly subjective and manipulatable perception! Definitely agree with you logicked about self reliance. I have the same need to at the very least to learn many different skills if not become skilled. Auto Mechanical, house wiring, brewing, crocheting, gardening, blacksmithing, woodworking, plumbing, etc etc.
