Chapter 696: Returning to Zhengdao Village

Shu Yu was overjoyed and quickly caught up with them.

She only had two days off, and after having lunch at home, she didn't waste much time. She went to the market to buy some food and essential daily supplies, and seeing that it was getting late, she prepared to return to Zhengdao Village.

Ruan Shi and Da Ya closed their stalls a few days earlier and escorted Shu Yu and her family to the city gate.

"Father, Mother, Elder Sister, I will come to the county town frequently in the future. You should go back now. We'll see each other again in a few days."

Shu Yu waved her hand and drove the cart with Grandma and the two little ones, heading back to Zhengdao Village.

When they arrived at Zhengdao Village, it was still bright outside, but a hunting team had returned.

The team happened to be passing by when they saw Shu Yu again. Their gazes were filled with mixed emotions.

Shu Yu's cart passed by them, and before long, it stopped at their house.

Grandma eagerly opened the courtyard gate and went to see the chickens she was raising in the yard.

Before leaving yesterday morning, she had fed them once, and she had entrusted the keys to Fang Xiyue. Since Shu Yu had these two days off, she had asked Fang Xiyue to come over in the morning and help feed the chickens again.

Grandma wasn't worried about the chickens going hungry. She was afraid that if there was no one at home, someone might steal them.

These were the hens she specially bought for Shu Yu to lay eggs. They couldn't be missing.

Because of this, she had almost taken them with her to the county town before leaving yesterday.

It was Shu Yu who convinced her that at this critical moment, no one would dare to steal chickens or dogs. First, this was Zhengdao Village, which was already a place of exile, and crimes like these would be severely punished.

Second, the Magistrate had just visited, and if theft occurred now, wouldn't it be slapping his face?

Now that Grandma had returned, she quickly counted the chickens. Great, none were missing.

Shu Yu felt both amused and exasperated. After letting San Ya and Da Hu disembark from the cart and bringing it into the courtyard, they unloaded all the items from the cart.

There were quite a few things, and the whole family busily arranged them in the house, adding many new items.

Dinner was simple. They ate the dumplings that had been made in the county town for lunch. After a quick boil, they were ready to eat.

After being busy for a while, the sky had gradually darkened.

Shu Yu listened to the sounds outside and realized that the people who had been working outside should have returned.

However, it seemed that someone stopped at their doorstep and lingered for quite a while.

Grandma became nervous and asked in a low voice, "Ah Yu, do you think those people saw that we weren't home yesterday and came to check if there was anyone here? If there's no one, are they planning to take action?"

Shu Yu shook her head and decided to open the courtyard gate.

But by the time she reached the gate, the person outside had already left. Shu Yu could only catch a glimpse of a piece of clothing.

However, from that figure... it seemed to be Madam Shu?

Indeed, it was someone from the Shu family. Not only Madam Shu but also the other Shu family members deliberately took a detour to pass by here. Madam Shu was simply walking at the back. They wanted to see if the Lu family had returned.

Inside the house, there were voices and the laughter of children, indicating that they had indeed returned.

The Shu family members breathed a sigh of relief. They had thought that the Lu family wouldn't come back once they left. Fortunately, they had only taken a two-day break and hadn't been acquitted of their crimes. They hadn't disappeared forever.

Since Shu Yu had returned, it was likely that Hou Shi and Sixth Miss had also returned.

This time, they couldn't be as impulsive as last time.
