I see, social anxiety is apparently an infectious disease in the QC-verse XD

Claire broke Willow...

And she never spoke to another person again

Claire's got a few sharp edge to her personality and tends to worry a bit. Peoples' different sliders vary person to person though.

I apparently have the opposite problem. My wife assures me that she has several times seen other women attempting to flirt with me and being deflected by my impenetrable wall of obliviousness. I still have no idea when this happened.

I think I really, really need to look into an autism diagnosis. And some other diagnoses. Every single online writer/artist whose work & life experience really resonates with me has some combination of depression, autism, ADHD. Apparently these are my people. Hmm.

Same, I have found out THIRTY YEARS LATER from the person herself, who I had a crush on, that she was TOTALLY crushing and hitting on me for months and I didn't pick up on it. This actually has happened more than once.

When I was in college, a mutual friend had to email me and let me know this girl was really interested in me. We had classes together, hung out a few times, walked together once in a while. Had no idea she was interested at all. Completely oblivious. This September will be our 20yr anniversary. You aren't there only oblivious one out there. There are dozens of us. Dozens!

Marc Kevin Hall

I have the same utter inability to notice when someone flirts with me. I'm so dense that my partners usually have to point it out to me.

I have seen a "Flirt Harder, I'm a Physicist" tee in the wild.

I can't tell either. My mother told me that when I was in middle and high school that girls would approach her and ask what they had to do to get my attention. She said girls would be sending all sorts of signals and I was oblivious, lol. I don't think I'm on the autism spectrum, but I do have Tourette Syndrome which comes with ADHD and mild obsessive-compulsive traits. I fared much better online, which is how I met my wife, and even then, our whole circle of friends could see our relationship coming years before we did and they all said, "Finally!" once we started dating, haha.

My wife had to basically walk up and invite ME out on the date because otherwise, I'd never have noticed. Or maybe she's the only one that found me attractive. Who can say?

I feel like a lot of times the obliviousness that a lot of y'all are pointing to is because of the inability to think/believe that someone would be interested. I'll speak just for me, but for SOOOOOOO long, I assumed (because it had been true on many occasions) that I was just the cool friend but that no one was interested in "like that" so I completely missed signals, and often culturally people aren't so great about just coming out and saying "I like you. Let's hang out." (Especially men who don't want to come off as creepy.) It wasn't til I had several examples of people later telling me they were into me and then also moving to italy where the style is way more transparent and forward that i realized "oh, I'm attractive!" Gaining confidence in general and coming into my own sexuality and sexual feelings (which we often are taught to downplay) got me a much better calibrated awareness.

People also seem to think that when I pay them a compliment it means I'm flirting. People also try to flirt back, but I'm oblivious.

"Slow burn" is not just a romance term...

CaseyAEC

I think it's a lot more common then I used too. Then again, maybe those of us with it find each other.

John Pallister

I always thought of it as "erring on the side of caution" but "not wanting to come across as creepy" was also a significant factor. And yeah, my wife-to-be did almost have to draw me the diagram before the penny dropped... :)

Zwischen_Welten

HAHAHSHSHS from now on every time she does that, we can assume she’s flirting

Zwischen_Welten

Also Claire’s face in panel 3 🥺

I was wrong. I apologize.
