FUCK YEAH SHITTY¹ DAN ¹: We're gonna need a different qualifier for the man.

JD

I love him so much.

Michael

Time is relative

Hope

We Stan Shitty Dan

Anonymous

Woo! Shitty Dan evolved into a reoccurring character!

Morgan

I love Shitty Dan so fucking much.

Anonymous

I think Shitty Dan just might be Renee's soulmate

Anonymous

We stan Brun in this house, mister

Michael Boettger

Cool Dan makes the right decision and does it quickly! The fact that he did it so quickly kind of indicates this was already on his mind.

Shawn K. Younkin

Renee, it's an easy decision to make cause you're pretty awesome.

Anonymous

Idk if that's how healthy relationships happen but okay let's commit to something after only a week even tho neither of us had 100% those intentions! XD

Evgeniy Semyonov

Now I believe that he is a great team lead developer (?) - making life or death decisions under 30 seconds is a good skill, but being so totally right with that decision is a TALENT.

lilibat

I ship it. Let's go.

AlexKorobeiniki

INPUT: Cute fun girl wants to do relationship QUERY: Any problems with this? RESPONSE: additional variable: long distance QUERY: Does that really pose a problem RESPONSE: Meh, not really CONCLUSION: Fucking go for it!

Erin Moriarty

....this feels too easy coming from Jeph

Alacrity Fitzhugh

Dan's totally ordering shots. Two of them.

Anonymous

thats how long it takes me to make every decision ever

Diptych

I like Dan's "thinking about it" face in panel 5.

Kevin Hicks

That didn't SEEM like thirty seconds. But, time is relative, I guess. :-)

Grace Kieser

Is a panel going to be 30 seconds or three years? Even Jeph doesn't know!

Grace Kieser

I love how he's down for pretty much anything! Shitty Dan is definitely a good fit for the cast, and for Renee!

Anthony Gaglianese

Having been in long-distance relationships previously...I can say that these two are very brave for making the attempt. But I applaud them the courage in the face of delayed future sexy times.

Joseph Bonnar

Now if only Willow and her gang all come into the fold...

Grace Kieser

Well, they were friends in high school. He's not a complete stranger!

Jaron Mortimer

I propose that we drop "Shitty Dan" and instead refer to him as "Decidedly Not Shitty Dan". Or "Cool Dan", whatever works.

lazymagpie

I like Hot Dan's grin in the last panel

Anonymous

Not every relationship has to be fraught with drama and pinning. It's entertaining when it does of course (for us at least), but it's nice to have these more subdued ones to balance out the dramatic ones.

awgiedawgie

Don't complain! He'll change his mind!

Yelling Bird

YES! NOW TEACH ELLIOT HOW TO DO THAT SHIT!

Jennifer Doyle

I'm in a 10-years-and-still-going LDR. It works for us, and HURRAY is a for video calling. I suspect that may pop up later.

Anonymous

Wow, shitty dan is so cool

Anonymous

Lit Dan??? instead of Shit(ty) Dan?

Jennifer Doyle

As a person with anxiety, I super appreciate this!

Anonymous

Basically what happens when I say I need a moment to think about something. Usually out loud.

OldGoat

It's a complement, Dan. Bask in it. Naked.

Errol Lobo

Good-ass Dan

Joseph

AWESOME DAN REMAINS AWESOME

jimbo

don't trust the Dan teeth, they have hidden agendas!

Anonymous

lets be honest, with jeph's track record they're all recurring characters (some of whom just haven't recurred yet)

Creepy Cat Lady

I am still laughing at the first panel.

kaitou

All I needed was panel 1.

BobC

Long-distance relationships suck. But they suck way less than not trying.

Hugh Eckert

There used to be a tagger in DC who signed themselves Cool "Disco" Dan (quotes included). Just saying...

Brent

Sometimes it doesn't take a lot of thinking to know what you want

Pejo

Good thing they're in MA. He'd get 3 shots in Germany, or pissed off wait staff in England.

Anonymous

That first panel is the funniest one in a while. So good

Anonymous

Cuuuuute!!!

Bagge

What is with all this honest communication?

Anonymous

Awww... I like him.

Anonymous

I'm using this excuse for when my friends needs space for relationship stuff.

Populuxe

Even if the math is simple, it still needs to be done.

Gary Sumners

Some folks can actually *make* a decision.

Summer Sudbrink

He died a few years ago. I always marvelled at the impossible places he menaged to tag.

Anonymous

!shitty dan is a smart cookie. Didn't make it too easy for Renee... and left her hanging just long enough to keep things interesting.

darklion

Now who's speaking too quickly? I mean, Dan could know for certain and it'd still be a good idea to wait a day to say so.

Bagge

Long distance relationships can be complicated, but now there are perfectly good systems for playing magic online. They'll figure it out.

Anonymous

✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼

Shane Wegner

Calculating. Benefits of agreeing- more Renee booty. Drawbacks of declining- less sexy times with a Renee. Also Renee is good. Cogitation complete.

Anonymous

That sounds like completely unbelievable fiction. I'll take two

Absentia

ℌ𝔞𝔫𝔡𝔰𝔬𝔪𝔢 𝔇𝔞𝔫𝔦𝔢𝔩 knows what he wants. Respect.

orange slice

Have to admit I read that as Lieutenant Dan for a brief moment. Hey there Forrest

Anonymous

I'll admit, for a moment I thought he was being clever and meant they should have some shots...

Lightsabr2

Brun's never anything but perfectly literal. Brun. Wait.

Ben Russell-Gough

This is the big problem with Dan: He tends to respond to emotional tension with humour. I get it; I'm not good with situations like this either but I don't think it augers well for the long term if he can't show Renee that he's taking her concerns seriously.

Lisa

Dan really brings out Renee's unfiltered thoughts. This whole thing started because her brain slipped (to use her words) when texting him. I don't think I've seen her accidentally say her inside voice out loud to the other characters. (Not even Elliot whom she was also attracted to, so it doesn't seem to be a simple matter of how she behaves around people she's into.)

Thomas Halpin

This is going suspiciously well. My anxiety is on full alert.

Stephen Wells

Engineer carries out very rapid cost-benefit analysis. Results are positive.

Gary Walker

Next comic: Brun enters with cocaine all over her face. "There was a lady who shared hers."

MikeT

Powdered Brun is best Brun

Ardent Slacker

It's also a risk/reward analysis. Giving it a try has way more potential positive outcomes. If it fails, it fails, same result as not trying, except it doesn't make the rest of that night SUPER-weird. If it works, yay!

SheepFace2000

Yknow I missed the previous comic and was suuuuuper concerned that QC was going down a road here

Anonymous

I will sometimes use this as a polite way of saying, "You need to shut up and let me make a decision." I find it difficult to make rational decisions while someone is advocating for one side or the other. You presented your argument, and now I will evaluate the issues.

OldGoat

Shades of Marten's one night hook-up with Tai's friend, Del the hippie chick.

Anonymous

Next 12 comics: extremely intense one-sided conversation about clock winding mechanisms

Anonymous

Lol I love dan

Ian Wolfe

To be fair, as cool and crazy hot as Renee is, I can totally understand it not taking long to mull the situation over and find in her favor.

Anonymous

He is now fully "No-Longer-Shitty" Dan

Darnel D Cooper

Oh,... I like him. We should keep him,... he's the opposite of Martin,... No second guessing Not assertive as much as definitive,.. he cheerfully goes after what/who he likes. .... and he's not slimey,.... (He does need to learn how to smile though,...)

Gary Walker

Is it just me or are Brun and Dan the only characters with any chill at all?

SC

What if that IS what “powder my nose” meant all along?

Kevin Hicks

I mean, males only have their WORD for what they're REALLY doing in there...IJS...

Anonymous

Days later I’m still coming back to chuckle at panel 1. I note it doesn’t work half so well without the set up of the previous comic.

Anonymous

I think Bubbles has some chill... and maybe Steve? Four out of a cast of hundreds.

Tim Keating

OMG when I first read this, Renee in the second panel in my brain said "it just pooped out." Which would have been very on-brand for her.
