Mr Jackpots

Dami wrote her rap part for What. From this song onward the spider story disappears, but the curse is still operating and has the girls alone and trapped in individual nightmares. They are trying to find each other, but only find traces of where the others may have been. The lonely feel of an empty party room. Jiu catches a glimpse of Yoohyeon, but she can't reach her. There are many strong images that are open to interpretation. Yoohyeon's outfit when she is on the roof gives me spider vibes. The crystal globe in the party room. A dream within a dream? Yoohyeon sitting on the bed in her room but the place is spattered with blood, she's wearing the spidery outfit and the air is full of the jokers from a deck of cards. You have to freeze frame that one and I have no idea what it means other than that it really is a nightmare image. Bottom line, at the end they are still being kept from each other and are still trapped in the nightmare. The song also evokes feelings of the loneliness and alienation that many people have living in a modern city.

I wasn't sure about this song when I first heard it, but it grew on me. I think the reason that it's harder to appreciate is that the overwhelming feel of the song is anger and frustration. The other songs before What don't have that feeling. The rage is right in your face. The girls have been tormented endlessly for a foolish mistake they made as teenage schoolgirls. All they want to do is find each other and become complete again, but they're trapped in this endless maze of nightmare.

I felt like the Jokers were representing the beginning and the end of their journey as nightmares since I believe that they symbolise in Tarot readings. They also represent the inevitability of destiny, which is appropriate for Yoohyeon in the story. Also, I thought the purple flower on their spellbook looked like an anemone. Purple anemones symbolise protection from evil, so it could have been the girls' way of trying to stop themselves from harming people through their nightmares. Just my thoughts on the matter though 😂

I agree with Mr. Jackpots. I had to listen to to this more and now it is in my top three Dreamcatcher songs. I encourage you to listen to the instrumental version which gives a better idea of what the hook sounds like. The girls WHATs overpower some of what is going on underneath, which admittedly may have not been the best mixing choice. Hopefully this will help you enjoy the song more, but in any case I appreciate you being honest.
