Since it's never really explained how it works: Sun Breathing: Fake Rainbow - The user performs high-speed twists and rotations, thus creating afterimages used mostly to evade attacks. The afterimages work most effectively on enemies with good vision. The translators also made a small mistake in Tanjiro's flashback. He used Dance, not Flame Dance. Although they are pronounced the same (Enbu), the kanji for writing them is different. Dance is also a one hit attack (he used it against Rui as well, and in the flashback he was transitioning it to Clear Blue Sky, which he used against Enmu), while Flame Dance is a 2 hit combo as he showed here.

Glad you liked it :D While we're at it, here are the other techniques Tanjiro used so far in the anime: Dance - The user delivers a single high-powered vertical slash. Clear Blue Sky - The user spins their body horizontally to deliver a 360° slash. Raging Sun - The user unleashes two horizontal slashes to hit or defend from incoming attacks. Fire Wheel - The user leaps behind the opponent and spins in the air downward, releasing a sword attack in a circular motion. Flame Dance - A two-combo strike which starts with a vertical slash and then a horizontal one right after
