Half in the Worst: Release the Snyder Cut!

Mike, Jay and Rich Evans talk about the 4 hour long version of The Justice League aka "The Snyder Cut"!

Comments

Ken Harris

My day just got better!

Michael

Ugh. Can’t wait for work to be over now

securethong

I’ve made it to Part 4... this film is my Everest and I will die trying to watch it.

Anonymous

I have to be strong and put this off until tomorrow as it is bed time now, I can't wait to wake up tomorrow!

Anonymous

I think a Patron asked if this would be a Half in the Bag or a Best of the Worst? That person nailed it.

Peter Varga

The Best of the Bag!

Joshua Mannix

Time to watch 3 people talk about a movie I have no interest in viewing.

Anonymous

YESSSS!! My bf is off today I don't have to wait for him to watch it this time. Me: Half in the Worst... The Snyder Cut My bf: They released it?! Me: Yeah. I wanna go get high first real quick. Bf: I'm gonna shower real quick! *runs to the bathroom* We... live a simple life. ;) And we love you guys, or whatever.

Anonymous

I was very happy when DC announced this upcoming HITB

Anonymous

I just finished Part 2. Does it pick up at all when the first Act is over?

Anonymous

I know this is a non sequester, but I hope now that the "Snyder Cut" is out, I hope Marvel releases the "Corman Cut" of the 1994 Fantastic Four movie, perhaps as a DVD extra on their F4 movie if nothing else.

Anonymous

Ooh, I hope we get a Mike and Rich Talk About Doom Patrol

Bort Ward

This movie...actually looks interesting. I think I'll watch it (I'm usually not into comic-book movies)

Anonymous

I still think it's a bit rich to call it "more cohesive" or "the original vision" or whatever because at the end of the day it's a bloated 4 hour long.... thing. Movie? If Zack Snyder hadn't had the family tragedy, I firmly believe the theatrical cut still would have been just as strangely truncated but with less awkward humor presumably. There wouldn't have been all these character setups for Cyborg or Flash or the action scene for Wonder Woman because there's absolutely 0 chance the executives would have let him submit a 4 hour long or even 3 hour long cut. All those scenes that people seem to like only exist *because* he got to pace it at a completely unrestrained length as a streaming release plus the benefit of hindsight since it was produced 3 years later.

Michael Matzat

It's so funny when you make a feminism remark on Whedon while, if you wanted to bring SJW outrage to this movie you could because the Whedon cut pretty much had the black hero and heart of the movie removed. It's also an astounding decision considering how people lost their pants over Black Panter because black power. We are all BLM until our movie is to long and we need to cut something. :D

Matthew Gladney

So wait... is this the new Half in the Bag that was mentioned here a couple weeks ago? I thought that one was going to be a straightforward 3 movie set-up? This seems to have jumped ahead of that? Or was this it? So confused.

Conor

That Paul Feig reveal... bone chilling stuff

Munchman

Reminder: Snyder had 2-3 years to LOOK UP RLM AND SEE HOW TO FIX JLA!!! Okay joking aside, Snyder has had the ability to use MULTIPLE HUNDREDS of opinions and advice, while yes many of the scenes were readded and unedited and not reshoots, it cannot be overlookd that THIS CUT wouldn't habve been released in 2018, Snyder was given a Redo and people wanted a redo so it was gonna succeed in more places, but as RLM points out the Movie is still not perfect and still is the same story. So if your a Hashfrag ReleaseTheSnyderCut type, congratualations you got a better movie, but it proves NOTHING! Okay maybe not nothing but very little.

Renus Dewberry

I think even I could do a better CGI hotdog, and I don't even know how to.

Mike St Louis

Excellent! Will watch it tonight. I watched the Snyder cut Thursday night in one go. I enjoyed it quite a bit and think it’s a huge improvement over what Whedon made. I wonder where the DCEU would be today if Snyder was able to put out his version at the time. It’ll be interesting to see if this new version results in some sequels.

Manuel Johnen

The theatrical cut may have been technically the worse movie, but it felt absolutely nothing like a Zack Snyder movie in any way, shape or form (especially after the incoherent cinematic nightmare that was "BvS"), and therefore I'll always... ung... "appreciate" it more... Because let's be clear here, the only thing Snyder ever directed that was REMOTELY tolerable were the first ten minutes of "Dawn of the Dead"... and after that, he should have never been allowed near a camera again...

Clancy Murphy

21:13 - So what IS Batman's single good one-liner in 80 years according to Rich? My vote is for "You weigh a little more than 108..."

Galewolf

The straightforward 3 movie setup they mentioned was for Best of the Worst, I think that's still coming

Sean Graham

Regarding fired directors getting a 'second chance', this is actually the second time WB has done this. They had Richard Donner re-cut Superman II for home video release decades after firing him

Anonymous

I'll try and explain the Martian Manhunter scenes the way I think it is implied. I think since Martian Manhunter is a telepath in the comics they may have given him new power where he can see the future. I think Manhunter is the one that is actually giving the premonitions to Bruce Wayne, and he is more agreeable to it since he is the only human on the team or the most resourceful one. I'm sure if there was a sequel, this would be explained. So I'm kind of guessing. We do know that the Flash does visit him BvS and that matches up at the end of the movie.

Anonymous

I think the problem is that there is a weird view of the heroes. From what I have gathered from watching, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman are all worshiped and treated like Gods in some form. So in the dream... all the gods that protected earth are defeated, and the apocalypse happens. Now it is up to the non-God (I don't know, heroes, titans?) to try and save the day in the sequel. I think Snyder really wanted to make a mad max-esque movie with superheroes.

Kellic

A polished, longer turd is still a turd.

Anonymous

Hard pass.

Anonymous

I doubt Snyder used any sort of internet (or establishment) criticism to "fix" the movie, especially since he never even watched the theatrical version. He's an accomplished director with an ego, he's gonna do what he's gonna do. And it's clear which parts are re-shot for this cut.

Anonymous

I audibly gasped when I saw Paul Feig's tweet

Michael Gussler

I'm glad you guys liked this movie. I have been a fan of MOS and BVS Ultimate Edition and I was aware that you guys despised those movies. I'm fine with it knowing those films are divisive but I'm really glad you liked this movie. It seems like a lot of people who didn't like the previous two like this movie and that makes me happy! P.S. Hey Jay, when you said us Snyder fans were "aggressive at times" could you give me an example or just a short summary? If not that's fine. Enjoy your day!

Marvin Falz

I have never cared for either of the cuts of Justice League, but I really like your discussion about the technical aspects of the movies. I guess, the action scenes are fine, I just don't see anything interesting in the story, which doesn't mean that the story is bad. The moment where Mike sneezes made me laugh. The sneeze was unintentional, but the cut was intentional. Then cut back to the discussion, where Jay seemingly reacts to the funny moment. This is the power of editing. (The reminiscence of that stupid line in Star Trek: Discovery is both unintentional and unfortunate, but the statement is correct.) I also like the seriousness of the discussion of the man's tragedy (sorry, I've forgotten the name of the man), especially the cutaways to Rich's subtle, sympathetic reaction.

gill

48:48 I AM SCREAMING "MONSIOUR MALLAH" AT RICH BUT HE CANT HEAR ME!!!!!!!!! PLEASE APPEND THIS VIDEO WITH DC'S "BEST" APE-RELATED CHARACTER

Sammy Allouba

I love that Rich chose to wore an Avengers shirt for this.

Anonymous

Well, what about Congorilla? No one seems to remember Congorilla.

Bort Ward

Recruit more editors, more CG artists.

Michael Parker

I was wondering if you guys were gonna cover this. I gotta be honest, I gave it a shot and enjoyed a lot more than I originally thought I would as someone who was not a fan of Snyder’s previous DC movies.

Jessie Zimmer

I've never been that into DC movies, but I'm genuinely interested in this. Though I'll be taking your advice and stopping before the epilogue. Great discussion. I enjoy listening to y'all break down the more technical aspects of filmmaking.

Anonymous

“I have notoriously bad taste in movies sometimes.” lol

Anonymous

Ye don’t bother, the epilogue is basically a series of long trailers for “movies to come”

Anonymous

I’m not Jay but I think this may answer your question https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2020/05/is-releasing-the-snyder-cut-a-victory-for-toxic-fandoms But basically fans harassed critics that gave snyders films bad reviews and told them to kill themselves etc...

Rick Drake

A four hour dark nightmare of a bombastic vapid superhero movie vs the two hour baffling light-colored vapid nightmare of a bizarre comedic superhero movie? I choose a tall cliff. Preferably overlooking rough seas.

Rhea

On one hand, embarrassing. On the other, you guys pointed out Whedon's brand of creepy-nice-guy feminism, there was Rich-cam, and Mike did a cute stretch. 7/10

Peter Robinson

Why not release all the scenes and let viewers cut their own film together. Would like to see Blade Runner cut together chronologically.

John Campbell

There are about 5 dogs in Hollywood with hotdog breath who approve of this cut.

GadgetBlues

Came here to say this. This is the same cinematic universe even. The whole "release the Snyder cut" thing probably wouldn't have happened if it weren't for the Donner cut.

Ben-K

I still can’t believe Martha Manhunter was a thing that happened

AllGoodNamesRGone

I love the 4K camera on Rich Evans. Great stuff, RLM.

Anonymous

Zack - you have the privilege of being approved by RLM. You may think your movie being discussed on BOTW is suffering - No...it is salvation...

Anonymous

Spot on observations as always.

Kellic

You guys never did say if you recommend the watch. Or did I miss that?

Aubrey Fogle

look at jay way over there in the thumbnail, won't rich and mike be his friend again? especially rich, that asshole

Anonymous

VERY COOL

Anonymous

Rich needs his own podcast to talk about comics.

Anonymous

Probably the best DC series you can currently find. It looks like platinum encrusted with diamonds when compared to the standard CW DC series, i.e. Legends, Arrow and the supremely god awful Batwoman series.

Anonymous

Those glamor shots of Rich were amazing.

Jake Romigh

This is easily in the top 5 videos for me. The passion everyone has for the topic, the level of detail you go into dissecting it; it was a fascinating watch. Thanks guys!

Erik Sheedlo

Release the... 1) editors cut 2) Calvil's cut 3) Prime cut 4) Short cut 5) Shaving cut 6) Paper cut 7) Cut above the rest 8) and Rickshaw cut!!

Jessie Zimmer

Someone over on YouTube asked if you can ever get Jim and Colin to come on down and talk about all the visual effects work that goes into big films like this. It's something that doesn't get highlighted enough, and I'd love to hear their take on what happened with this one.

Anonymous

Reel quick: IMAX is 1.43:1 aspect ratio, and Justice League was shot open matte in Super 35 at a ratio around 1.33:1 aka 4:3. Therefore, due to Snyder loving squares, he released the full open matte ver of the movie to emulate the IMAX experience (which would work out on a real IMAX screen). Additionally, as far as I know, no visual information was comprised or is missing.

Lisa

Agree so much. It's been too long since they've been able to visit.

Michael Matzat

I would love a "Invincible" Review by RLM when the first Season ends late April/early May. Loved the comic and the first three episode don it more than just justice. Deserves more attention than it gets.

Anonymous

I mean they said they liked it so you should just watch it

Anonymous

Guys if you watch the Snyder cut don’t skip the entire epilogue because the first part of it is actually important as it concludes the story

Anonymous

Twenty minutes to chronologically recap the 2017 version? You're slipping, Mike.

AllGoodNamesRGone

You know some people act surprised that this review wasn't them hating on Zack Synder. It's my fault for reading youtube comments under their review. However, I believe Mike said in the Last Jedi HitB that RLM champions the writer-director who crafts a movie and it feels like somebody's vision over the committee. Love this film or hate it, it is Zack Synder's vision. Now we can all discuss the plus and minuses in his vision, but I'd take this film over the abortion that was the theatrical cut any day of the week.
