'Smiling Friends' on Adult Swim Is Somehow Already a Hit Among Fans

By Chrissy Bobic Adult Swim premiered an animated special called on April 1, 2020 and what followed was an onslaught of viewers who desperately needed more. The Cartoon Network block of late night shows has been known to draw in lovers of the weird and kitschy, and with the funky animation and warped sense of humor throughout Smiling Friends, it was right on the money for a particular brand of weird.

For a moment, I was confused about what this is, and I thought maybe the animated show was based on RLM, but then I instantly realized that clearly isn't the case, when I saw that the red character on the right is waaaaay too tall to be Jay, who is of course "pissed off that [he's] so tiny."

Mike's best voice acting work since "Sergio". VERY COOL opportunity for you, Mike, hope they make more episodes and you get to do it more in the future. Been re-listening to your Phantom Menace and Star Trek V Plinkett commentaries recently and it's amazing to me how you have these entire conversations between impressions/characters, always thought you should be doing more voice acting.

A show with one episode is " hit among fans"? It sure would be surprising if the fans of the show with just one episode were disappointed by it. I guess they mean "fans" of the manchild-oriented, cocktail-umbrella-in-a-dogturd animation genre. Mike is great. He is the cocktail umbrella.

Yeah seriously, a headline that screams "totally NOT an advertisement written by the PR team". That and the number of times in the article body that they suggest how crazy Adult Swim would be not to pick up the pilot. Though for Mike's sake I do truly hope it gets picked up.

Have long been a fan of Zach's stuff back when he did newground animations, back before I found you guys. So hearing Mike's voice in a show together with some of the people I've adored since I was a wee lad was an amazing experience. I can only hope it was as fun making it and that you might be willing to put up with Zach, Tom and the other guys' escapades in the future to create more episodes. Hope you guys stay safe!
