A very special friend from Canada stopped in for a visit! Him and jay sat down to talk about a filthy sicko movie (what else!) Can't these two weirdos talk about a lovely movie like The Notebook? Or something lovely and beautiful? Whys they always want to talk about sicko filth? pervert weirdo movies that make my stomach sickens. I think they have brain problems. Some kind of development issues with them brains. - Krebs Gorlon

Jay has the best calves in the business

Timbo

Finally the long awaited maximum overdrive retrospective we have deserved

Cody

Can some super genius figure out what the movie is by what’s on the table?

Bill Lehecka

The Fly? I’m already sick. Thanks for the heads up, Krebs!

Alex Smyth

Is it Brain Damage?

Jeffry

Let me guess... Vancouver

Tom McGraw

thanks, Krebs!

Paladin

Colin is a bad influence on Jay or is it the other way around?

Jessica Abel

It's The Fly Collection (which per Google includes the original, sequels and remake)

Bright Anderson

It's the fly, unless Krebs is leading us down the garden path...

Syd Beretta

Alright but for real, when is Lem coming back to talk about Blind Rage starring Leo Fong?

Bill Wilson

But "up" what? Please, do tell Mister Gorlon, sir.

Lía

It's the maple syrup.

Nada Leona Sheppard

Hey Jay, have your thoughts on the new Exorcist sequels changed since it's not David Gordon Green who is doing it anymore?

Nathan Mills

Frank Henenlotter please 🙏 🤞

Gary

Love Canada!

heich (hey + ch)

Jay even has a Fly shirt on by the looksies

Sean LaVista

Promote Colin to full time correspondent!!!

Shanon Clemmons

It’s the fly. The box is on the table

Shorino

Are they aware that Krebs is German for cancer?

THE_GnomeChomskee

I think very special friend from Canada may be a redundant phrase. After all, don’t all special friends come from Canada? You know, like the ‘girlfriend’ you had in ‘high school’?

Marina P

The Fly!!!! Hell yeah

John Kott

I hope they weren't as traumatized by 1989's "The Fly II" like I was. There's some images from that film that have never left my head, haunting me 35 years later.

Robb Mashek

The Fly, I have the same box set on the table

Dendo Star

To be fair Krebs, we all love Freddy Got Fingered. JAPAN FOUR!

Olof

I hope Jim stops by some time, his review of Joe vs the Volcano was great!

Alastair Ward

I thought hopefully that was Jim on the right...

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

Woo! Cronenberg!!! With Justin Trudeau! I can't wait. Man, I wish somebody would talk about Videodrome and Naked Lunch as well. Videodrome is just fucking amazing, and Naked Lunch is the best adaptation of Burroughs ever put to screen (though I'm open to having my mind changed) and allowed Peter Weller to show off his serious acting chops like he did in Robocop, for which he never got enough credit. Also, I just fucking love David Cronenberg. Even his later stuff that he didn't have a hand in writing, like Eastern Promises and A History of Violence. Anybody see Crimes of the Future? I feel like I'm the only person who did, and I thought it was a real return to old Cronenberg form. Unfortunately, it was released the same weekend as his son's Infinity Pool, and the latter got all the attention. I thought Infinity Pool sucked. Great premise and terrible execution in how the story developed. Though I really like his previous film, Possessor.

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

Wait, why is "high school" in quotes? I was actually in high school! I have the degree to prove it, even if I was barely ever there. I literally set a school record for cut classes in my junior year with 182. But I was on the ice hockey team. That was the "important" team at my school, which meant players could do whatever the fuck they wanted without getting punished, because a suspension meant you couldn't practice or play. Just show up for tests, ace them, and then go back to getting high all day. These were NOT good life lessons for the future. It's how you end up being a bum who throws money at a bunch of drunks on Patreon.

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

I was traumatized by the fact that it was a sequel to The Fly. But I was barely a toddler, so I only learned of both movies when I got into film when I was older. Seeing The Fly and then finding out about and watching the sequel was not a good experience. Hey, whatever happened to Eric Stoltz anyway?

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

Anyone know if the Scream Factory version is worth purchasing? I still have my DVD, which looks really good. I've become suspicious of BluRay upgrades in the last few years. Sometimes you get an excellent new version that's sharper, but doesn't change anything. Other times you get anything James Cameron touched, or that remove film grain from an older movie (guys, the director shot it with film grain in mind! YES, EVEN YOU, JAMES FUCKING CAMERON!), or tons of other issues...

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

Oh BTW, regarding your comment on Picard season three and Picard and Beverly discussing killing an unarmed prisoner: it was kind of a moral dilemma, and while I did have a problem with Beverly thinking about it, I had no problem with Picard doing so. Remember, he was prepared to not only kill Hugh and deny his autonomy/"humanity" until he absolutely could not anymore, but was even willing to use Hugh as a vector to kill off an *entire alien species*. Pretty grim...

THE_GnomeChomskee

Indeed, but ultimately he did the right thing by allowing Hugh to die for no reason in a throw-away manner ;). Sorry. The show gave me deep pause, lol.

Mahaloth

Please tell me they did a Best of the Worst as well!

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

Haha no need for apologies. Reasonable people can disagree. Plus, I'm entirely open to the possibility that my feelings about that season -- the only one I watched -- were deeply colored by my excitement and emotional response to having what felt like "real Trek" for the first time since in twenty-five years. I know it's impossible to be objective...

Allison PM

I suppose I also have developmental issues. And YOU’RE NOT MY REAL DAD! *blares Mannequin Pussy*

Marvin Falz

The real MVPs are the Videodromes we made along the way. No idea what this means, but I'm looking forward to a The Fly re:view!

Sean Yahya

I got excited thinking it was Jim on the right…but I can settle for Susan

Rhea

Is it weird that I predicted Colin from Canada's presence because he posted a story on Instagram and I spotted Mike's arm? Literally just his arm. I was like 'Michael that's my friend Michael' to no one because I was alone. Anyway The Fly is one of the most romantic films I've ever seen and I'm not joking.

Elizabeth Thompson

Haha! Cronenberg man. I’m psyched for this. William S. Burroughs, I should read more, he’s a blind spot for me. Naked Lunch was amazing. Best use of asshole imagery since Pink Flamingos

Robb Mashek

If only Jim would unblock me on Twitter/X for simply making a snarky remark that he’s only funny when talking with a Scottish accent.

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

Burroughs is very hit and miss. Unlike with his wife *ba-dum-tish* Anyway, it's hard to know what to recommend when it comes to him. I'd encourage anyone to pick up one of his more notable works, and just stop if it's not for them and try a different one. He can be a difficult read, but not like Melville ("Bartleby, the Scrivener? Anyone? Not a big Melville crowd here huh? Eh he's not an easy read...") sh-sh EDIT: I own nearly ever David Cronenberg movie. Dude's a fucking legend!!

THE_GnomeChomskee

I’m telling you, Strange New Worlds is the closest to actual Trek I think we’ll ever see again. It’s good, too, if sometimes silly like classic TOS.

DonMac

I'm glad this time they didn't wait until after a filmmaker is dead to finally re:View one of his movies.

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

It means "the real sex we had along the way was through the retina of the mind's eye that is the television. Long live the new flesh!"

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

I think RLM's Patreon page could plausibly be called "message board for gen-x and y people with developmental issues who also really like movies" (someone please proffer a better name. I can't be bothered). As someone who only comments here and has zero social media, I feel very much at home :) I'm not just paying for drunks who make videos I love. I'm also paying for the the combined idiocy, intelligence, weirdness, and humor of the comments. There are dozens of us! DOZENS!

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

You said at least three really weird things in this comment. I appreciate that. Although I have to admit that I never really thought of The Fly solely as about the relationship. I mean, I understood the angle of it being about a romance, and I always found it terribly tragic, but never watched it *purely* through that lens. Thinking through it with only that in mind while ignoring everything sci-fi gives me a different kind of experience in my head. So I guess I'm saying...thank you? Like, genuinely? Yeah, I am.

Allison PM

I have a lot of socials. But I’m not very committed to any of them, except discord because I like to play games with my friends. The RLM fan stuff on other sites is trash garbage and super political. But someone does have a whole thirst RLM account on tiktok and posts often which both amuses and confuses me.

DonMac

Cronenberg is over 80 years old, so it would be better to appreciate him in the time he has left, instead of only after he's gone (unfortunately, the usual way).

Amanda B.

RLM Tik Tok Thirst Posts? Oh my god that's disgusting---Where??

Faith Martin

Please explore the recent weird glut of movies that have come out featuring four women 65+ going on a vacation/road trip and getting into all kinds of shenanigans. Usually features Diane Lane, Bette Midler, Jane Fonda, etc.

Allison PM

Grackene. They post pretty frequently too. I am not this person, just to be clear.

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

That is a hilarious exchange and I am suspicious of Allison's protestation. I don't even have Discord. I make my friends use the Steam voice chat. They aren't happy about it, but part of friendship is putting up with each other's eccentricities. Mostly mine...

Allison PM

Add me on steam. I’m Furby with a knife! 🔪. I play lots of horror games. PinkWalrus pretty much everywhere else. I would make videos if I ever finished an art project.

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

Shush David Cronenberg will be the first person to be genetically modified to achieve immortality. Or at least crossed with some kind of near-immortal microorganism. Or maybe one of those giant turtles that lives for a really long time, though I don't want to end up with a Cronenturtle...

Zan Ferguson

I often try to predict what the next Re:View will be. I have never once been correct, which is very typical for me. Usually, they are just ones from my wish-list…Y’know, like Princess Bride, Quest for Fire, Cable Guy, Return to Oz, True Lies, and so on and so on. If these types of comments weren’t so annoying, I would continue. The Fly has been on this list for a long time, though... And God bless you, Jay, and God bless you, Sgt. Zima. I pray for 10,000 more Re:Views in the future. So at least the channel outlives me.

THE_GnomeChomskee

Oh shit you said it. You made me spit out my tea. Thank you. I needed the laugh. I like Bartleby. It’s much better off than Billy Budd which they made us read in fourth grade because they were trying to get kids to hate reading, I guess. My favorite Melville is ‘The Confidence Man: His Masquerade’. As for Burroughs you are right in that he can be pretty divisive. Personally, I prefer Phillip K Dick when it comes to drugged-out American writers, though he owes a great deal to Burroughs… and to an ancient satellite circling the world he called VALIS. He credited it with saving his infant son’s life by beaming information to him through coherent, pink light. If you haven’t read him I highly recommend you check him out.

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

Sorry! Just saw this. You have officially been added to the most exclusive club on the internet. I...think you'll know by my screen name

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

Wow, I did NOT know that about PKD. What an...interesting man. I never made it through Moby Dick. As with James Joyce and Ulysses, my first taste of the author was my last. Though I would probably give Melville another chance. I will never, ever give Joyce one. But I do love Archer. Its blend of humor is exactly what I always wanted. I'm the kind of person who finds farts just as funny as background jokes about the Dreyfus Affair. Too bad the show hasn't been any good for years :(

Anthony

The posters were a lie

🎼Colin? Are you there? Colin, why didn't you never tell me this?!!?🎵

Ugh, these posts are just an annoying tease. Release something already!! I love you guys... I can't justify paying to just get teased.

Luckily with my dementia I forget the RLM back catalogue by the time I'm up to date then just go back to the beginning and run through it again
