This series gets better and better but can I say: I LOVE STARK ALREADY! His dynamic with Fern, the expressions he gives, his courage amidst cowardice -- it all paired REALLY nicely with this wonderfully animated episode that was thrilling and heartwarming! I'm glad he's joining our group for their adventure!

It is so nice to watch an anime that checks all the boxes: world building, story building, character building, art and sound. My brother and I talked about that early in the series. The series is crafted in everyway with care and attention to detail. I enjoyed your thoughts on this episode. I could not agree more that the art during the dragon fight was totally gorgeous. My brother and I both lost it with the "So small" comment. It was snuck in there so subtlety and quickly that it catches you off guard. With Eisen, you are reminded of that old saying "the eyes are the window to the soul". I will be looking forward to your thoughts on the next episode.

I ship Stark and Fern too but it's also generally good for Fern to have another human around her age in the party. Stark was the reason the dragon didn't attack after all, so though not consciously, he did contribute to it, "the dragon is smart enough to not pick a fight with a powerful opponent". When Frieren asked him why he's helping out the villagers and he answered that it's because he lived for three years there, I don't think that's the answer she was looking for, after all Stark did try to defend (even if he froze in fear) the village three years ago before he knew any of the villagers, so there is a reason beyond 'I lived here for a while'. Frieren knew Eisen hit Stark, that recontextualizes her comment about his scar ("it's not that serious an injury") from last episode, she knew where he got it from xD I think Stark's VA sounds familiar because he is the VA for Makoto from Great Pretender. Loved the discussion, excited for next week ^^

Great reaction ! Lets talk animation a little, so you know when Frieren said that Stark needed to distracted the Dragon for 30 seconds, well the animated sequence with Dragon and stark is just 30 seconds in the episode, its just so cool, also making a dragon in 2D in an anime and this well is really really rare and exctremely difficult, i myself have seen really a lot of anime and i am very interest in animation in general but i saw i think maybe 4 times a Dragon this well animated, the feeling of weith and the feeling of the wind are so good on Stark when he is on the Dragon. But it wasn't just the dragon, this episode had some really great character acting and fabric animation, notice how the characters and Fern clothes moves in sequences like Fern when she is with Stark in the bar, when she sits next to him ect. Frieren is such an animation gem since the begginning and its not even action scene that represent the majority but character acting, so many little gesture and detail that does not need to be animated but are anyway, you really see the love and the care of the staff for this production, its so good and i dont often see people talk about this when they are impressed by animation. ( sorry for my english )

Oh yeah, this anime is DEFINITELY checking boxes! I love all the detail and care you can tell have been dedicated to it! :) And yesssss, Eisen does embody that "eyes are windows to the soul" metaphor entirely! I love him! That "small" joke was hilarious and just hits you out of nowhere -- the show definitely felt like it picked up speed with this episode and I'm SO excited to see where it goes! Yessss, I will definitely comment on the VA for Stark in a future discussion! And I'm glad that Fern has someone her own age to travel with; she'll just have to warm up to him since she's used to being with an old grandma! :P But yes, I love Stark's character so far and am looking forward to what we will get from him in the future!
