**DEVOTED HEADPHONE WARNINGS**

In the (maybe) penultimate episode of the season, our sweet cinnamon bun Xie Lian bares his heart to Hua Cheng, who lends a supportive ear and - erm - umbrella to our dude!

Things are wrapping up in the lair of Qi Rong, but some familiar faces show up to assist Xie Lian and cross paths with our Crimson Rain Sought Flower who definitely lives up to his name, here! I can't believe we possibly have only ONE episode left....no fair, show!

There is so much i love this episode; the teamwork between Hua Cheng and wind master, the Hua Cheng and Feng Xin "i know him better/treat him better" stand-off. i didn't realise it unitl someone pointed it out on twitter, there's many paralles between Hua Cheng and Mu Qing, but a parallel between Hua Cheng and Feng Xin is that they both followed Xie Lian loyally and for Feng XIn, at one point had Crown Prince Xie Lian at the centre of his world. The painful symbolism of Hua Cheng's butterfly JUST PASSING BY while Xie Lian is in the coffin T_T This is why i like different adaptations, sometimes you realise new things!

The Hua Cheng and Feng Xin standoff was AMAZING! I can definitely see the similarities with Feng Xin and Mu Qing to Hua Cheng, but I think we can agree that MQ and FX don’t go as far as HC in his devotion and love of XL! 😛 Agree, though, that butterfly floating by the coffin of XL was….just…my heart! Thank you for the kind words and comment!

Didn’t have a chance to comment on last week’s episode, so I’ll add it here. My one gripe about last week’s episode, besides the spoiler with Xie Lian’s parents, is the seeming justification of An Le’s actions. Don’t get me wrong, I loved finally seeing the Gilded Banquet play out, I feel this was one of the less developed arcs in the book, so I’m glad we got to see a more in-depth explanation of it. But having those guards be Qi Rong’s lackeys kind of tainted An Le’s motivations in my eyes, if that makes sense? It made it feel more like its a black and white situation, there’s an easy side to choose as to who is in the right and wrong. Meanwhile, in the book, I always read it as a group of Xian Le people including An Le felt as if they were disgraced after the war, and Qi Rong just influenced/fueled that hatred and convinced them to murder the royals. Also, the donghua made the idea that Lang Qianqiu’s father actually wanted to kill all the Xian Le people after the massacre, while in the book it was more ambiguous. I liked it better when it wasn’t certain, whether or not Lang Qianqiu’s father did say that. Because then we are left questioning if Xie Lian did the right thing or wrong thing but he had to make a choice right then and there. It’s always been about facing that difficult choice, like the two men one cup of water analogy that keeps being brought up. Two sides both in the wrong and in the right and who should receive the salvation, to which Xie Lian decides to be that third path and take on the punishment to save both. Anyways, in this episode, I got so worried bc I thought when Xie Lian was reminiscing about the fires of the Xian le people and how they were kicking his prostrating statues, that they were about to sneak in a glimpse of the sword stabbing scene from book 4/Ch. 190. Because when it first starts the people sort of crowd around what looks like an altar of sorts but then it shifts to them kicking the statue. Maybe they were hinting at the sword stabbing scene, but I would have lost it if they showed some of it. Because, like with what they did about showing Xie Lian’s parents’ hanging, it would have revealed too much and would take away from those scenes if donghua-onlys already expect to happen. The emotional impact would lessen. But im glad they didn’t do it, but the fear I have all the time in adaptations is when they reveal too much too soon. They did that with MDZS with the Nie Huaisang reveal when it should have been kept until the very end. I’m also afraid the TGCF donghua team is gonna hint at the Jun Wu/Bai Wuxiang reveal too soon. But I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Also, a small detail that the donghua added that I thought was very cool was that, although that silver butterfly was there, it had missed where Xie Lian was, which shows how close Hua Cheng had been to finding Xie Lian but ultimately hadn’t. Who knows how many times those two in those past 800 years were close to meeting again, only to ultimate miss each other by chance. Which is why I love that last bit at the end of chapter 243 where it’s like “Last time they spent eight hundred years running towards each other. This time, it only took an instant to fall into each other’s embrace.” MY HEART, BE STILL, HUALIAN TRULY INVENTED LOVE. You know what’s also interesting? The way Hua Cheng says in this episode, “Three lives sacrificed for lasting peace. I would do the same.” Because, in a way, Hua Cheng also sacrificed three of his own lives. Maybe not for peace per se, but he did it for Xie Lian. The first time as a mortal on the battlefield. Second time as Wu Ming after absorbing the Human Face Disease. Then the third time after the battle with Jun Wu. It just goes to show that Hua Cheng is true to his word, every time, and everything he says to Xie Lian isn’t just a bunch of empty words to reassure Xie Lian in this disparaging time but he actually means them. I’m so sad season 2 is coming to an end, but honestly, this season was everything I could have asked for and def worth the three year wait. Here’s to hoping for a third season!!

That is a really good point! It DOES seem like the series was showing that An le was somewhat correct in what he was trying to do – I am glad that Xie Lian kind of diffuses that a bit, especially since they “take care” of An Le in the end, but I totally understand what you mean! And YES, the book DOES make it more ambiguous; I guess that’s the price with it being expanded on, but I totally agree with your points, there! Thanks for saying that! Oh yeah, I am SO glad they didn’t preview the stabbing scene either! I can admit, I shared in that concern as well! And yessss, that’s why I’m glad that I was able to read through HOB before the donghua! I am hoping they can find a way to keep the BWX reveal a secret; I want to have faith in them, so I agree, we’re going to have to see, but let’s cross our fingers together! Haha! And ahhh, yes, it’s like HC is still “looking” for XL in the form of the butterfly! And YESSSSS that is so true – it adds to that Chapter 243 moment when it shows how they finally found each other! BE STILL MY HUALIAN HEART AS WELL! Inventors of love indeed! And ooohhhhhhh, that idea of HUA CHENG sacrificing himself as well! Yessss, that’s a great point! Nice observation, there! heart squeeze I am really sad that season 2 is coming to an end as well – I’m hoping for a third season as well and hope it’ll be worth the wait as well! Thank you for the comment and kind words! 😀
