Kuroko's Basketball: "Replace" Light Novel #1 Review! (Patreon)

There are six light novels in total and while I was originally going to do one video for them all...you can see I have PLENTY to talk about with the first one, already!  

This novel was a hilarious series of vignettes involving Seiren, Teiko Middle School days, and poor Kaijou, who should probably stick to playing basketball over talking to women! ;) I hope you enjoy my rambles and I'd love to hear your thoughts!

The truck

The irony about how the first guy that Momoi notices is Kuroko. The least noticeable man of them all. xD Midorima and Momoi are sharing notes, I need more content from them. They would be perfect bff's. Having /girls/nights of gossiping about star signs and doing nail care. Teiko trauma is real, and we must never forget it. Because when you least expect it, it will attack you from behind. When I first saw the anime, read the manga, I barely knew who Moriyama was. But THEN the audio dramas and this goddam novel introduced him to me. And he's such a force of chaos. Like he's trying his best at getting a girlfriend, but he's also stupid. (just like they all are) and he tries too hard and his efforts don't pay off. He just makes me smile fondly, I find him so endearing that he became one of my favourite side-side-characters. Teppei is a force of nature.

2023-08-11 16:58:27 The randomness of the content of the light novels remind me a lot of how bonkers some of the audio dramas are. Definitely interesting getting from the perspective of Momoi as the main character, especially considering she's one of the characters I do really wish we'd gotten more of in the anime. But her friend being called Yayoi is just giving me such Given memories with Uenoyama's sister 😆 I immediately thought of Kagami as you were explaining about how Momoi realises that once noticed, there's something compelling about Kuroko 🤣 The likening of Akashi to Shuu in Tsurune makes me realise he just needs a Ryohei of his own. But although Hayama is the most puppy dog out of all the players on Rakuzan I just don't ship them romantically. As much as I feel for Momoi my AoKuro heart is so happy that Aomine can be such a litlle sh*t with stealing other people's food and drinks. Maybe this moment with Kuroko being the first to show up against the thugs is what Kise meant about Kuroko first approaching the streetballers when they were playing unfairly, and all of them mean when they're racing after Kuroko in Last Game. He really does have a habit of being first into the fray. Kise wanting to know if Momoi made a move on Kuroko just further adds to my Kise & Momoi being besties. I really adore their relationship and it's definitely one of the ones that is definitely solely platonic no matter what for me. They really gotta get that dig in with the Teiko feels. We cannot have nice things when it comes to Teiko Middle School days...unless it's in FanFic AU form 🤣 I'd probably be sneezing like crazy if I was around Moriyama with his citrus scents. I can handle a little; I got a citrus-scented room fragrance spray and I can have one single spray of it in my room once every two days otherwise I'll be sneezing continuously 😅 It's why I honestly still wear a facemask sometimes because then other people's aftershave and perfume don't irritate/annoy my nose. Love that Kasamatsu and Kise are the only two *really* not wanting to pick up girls. Definitely further proof for our KasaKi ship! So much evidence in that chapter for them. Hey that "Miss would you like a cup of tea?" might work in the UK 😂 But honestly asking a stranger that you'd either assume they're crazy or that they're working for a café and have been tasked with trying to tempt and procure some customers. Not a friendship I ever thought of, but yes Hayakawa and Izuki could definitely get along pretty well together. The second-hand embarrassment for Kasamatsu with the toast is so painful! My poor captain. Kuroko reading detective novels and trying to be all Sherlock about the missing wallet is so cute. But because it's so engrained in my mind that Ono Kensho voiced Kuroko, all I can think is of his character in Bungo Stray Dogs: Akutagawa 🤣 Some of the cooking in Kuroko no Basuke needs to come with a big red warning for potential side effects such as fainting, blacking-out, uncontrollable sweating, and death. Poor Kiyoshi never learns to reject Riko's cooking. I'm with you in that most other stories from the audio dramas or the light novel add new layers or expand on already known parts of the characters. But when it comes to Kiyoshi it just feels like they want to relegate him to being the funny man, and there's no expansion on those parts of his character or new layers. It just feels like new iterations of the same stuff we already know about him. The second Kaijo story is adorable. I'd probably start getting glazed over eyes but I can relate to talking about your interest and getting too swept up talking about it that you end up going into details that the other person may not be interested in or even understand. Kagami living up to his cat name of Taiga in being a scaredy cat 😂 Kiyoshi would have had burst ear drums and gotten thumped from me for the clown mask. I do not scare easily and I do love classic horror like The Shining, The Omen, and The Exorcist. But thanks to Stephen King's book IT and Tim Curry's portrayal of Pennywise I cannot stand clowns. They are my biggest NOPE! Even when they're not partnered up, we still get Mitobe/Koganei crumbs...love it! Oh the rat link to Tian Guan Ci Fu...my Mum is similar to Kiyoshi, she *hates* rats. Has to look away if they're on TV at all. It's the main reason I wouldn't recommend Tian Guan Ci Fu to read because of those damn corpse-eating rats. The image of those hulking creatures that can also cry out the pain and suffering of the people they feasted on would give her nightmares for months. I imagine Kiyoshi would be something similar going by this novel. Dang this chapter really is linking with your other reactions 🤣 First Tian Guan Ci Fu and now Jujutsu Kaisen. Love it. Kagami and Kuroko's polar opposite reactions to horror tropes remind me so much of my BFF and her girlfriend! But I love Kagami still being a protective boyfriend even when scared out of his wits 🥰 Was not expecting Yakuza Dad to suddenly show up and be the ghost scaring the crap out of them all. The tone of voice and his lines for Nigou makes me think Nigou has the spirit of a cat 😂

If Momoi had an interest in star signs, you KNOW Midorima would be ALL about it! That would be so sweet! Honestly, the light novel's run around with Momoi, Aomine, and Kuroko makes me want to stare at them like that Justin Timberlake meme, hahaha!! And seriously, the Teiko Trauma just sneaking in unexpectedly -- what the heck, light novel?! AND MORIYAMA YES! I agree 100% -- the light novel and audio drama really make him shine. "He's trying his best at getting a girlfriend, but he's also stupid" HAAHAHA 100% FACTS. Kaijou just has no luck with the ladies. At least Kasamatsu's already realized that ship has sailed and has given up hope for that! :P Teppei is just a force of nature indeed! 2023-08-25 10:54:40 At this point, I’m just accepting how WILD all of the “extra” KNB content is, hahaha! I thought the same thing about Yayoi! And Izumi was reminding me of Momo’s sister in FREE! (though the names are different). I also like how the light novels are giving us the audio drama content at times, but from a different POV. Kagami and Momoi both realizing the same about Kuroko? OF COURSE. Momoi, Aomine, and Kuroko make for such a fun trio in the light novels – especially the oblivious-but-there love triangle aspects of their dynamic. And I agree that Momoi and Kise give off “bestie” vibes in this. Does Furihata count as the Ryohei to Akashi’s Shu? 😛 That is a great point that Kuroko often shows up first to the fray and right in the middle of things. Last Game INSTANTLY comes to mind with that, too, haha! And Kuroko as the detective knowing his VA’s roles is fun to think about! I actually wear a grapefruit-vanilla perfume a lot for work and going out, but it’s VERY subtle and more “sweet” than citrus. And *coughcough* the KasaKi agenda was on POINT in this novel! Poor Kaijou, though; just NO LUCK with the ladies at ALL. At THIS point, everyone just needs to let Riko and Momoi know they don’t have to cook! I agree, though; I wish Kiyoshi had some more depth added to him in the light novels – NOW, there is a story with him to come that I LOVE, so I’m excited when we get to that! 🙂 Kagami a SCAREDY CAT. OMG. YES. XD But also, I LOVE him being protective even when scared, too! &lt;3 Give me allllll the Koganei and Mitobe moments, yes please! I’m NOT a fan of clowns, either, so I would have NOT been about Kiyoshi with the clown mask, either! That is so creepy about the rats and perfect timing, right? In fact, it’s liking to SO MANY things! The universal stars are aligning! 😀 Of COURSE Kagetora had to be there to make sure his daughter was safe! Nigou being like a cat?
