Chapter 22 – Galuna Island

“Hargeon, this place feels almost nostalgic even though it wasn’t that long ago.” Lucy smiled at the harbor city brightly. How could she not have a fondness for this place? It had led her to meeting Natsu, joining Fairy Tail, and even finding her new home and family.

“I hate this Potion…” Mira whined as all of the Dragon Slayers held small, individual bottles of a potion they’d gotten from Porlyusica.

“Let’s just get it over with.” Cana lamented even though she had a bottle of strong liquor in her bag to try and counteract the horrifically bitter taste.

“Share with us, Cana,” Erza glanced at the Card Mage’s bag. “Please.”

“Maybe we can just swim there?” Natsu mused as he looked out towards the ocean.

“I don’t think that’s possible…” Lucy shook her head.

“Stop being a baby, Natsu.” Gray scoffed at his rival.

“Let’s find a ship to take us to the island!” Happy landed on Natsu’s shoulder with a grin. He may be mostly out of Magic, but he wasn’t too tired to poke fun at his family.

“I hate this…” Natsu grumbled as all of the Dragon Slayers popped open the potions and downed them quickly.

“Oh…” Lucy blinked as all of their faces scrunched up. Mira and Natsu even dry-heaved a bit.

Cana pulled out her liquor and nearly tore off the top in her haste to wash out the flavor of the potion. She downed a long swig of the booze before passing it to Erza. The redhead took a long pull herself before handing the bottle to Mira. The blue-eyed model raised the bottle high for her drink before giving the last to Natsu. The Magma Dragon Slayer finished the bottle off and exhaled heavily with his tongue out.

“That never gets any better,” Natsu shook his head as he tossed the empty liquor bottle into the nearest garbage can.

“Even the strong stuff barely gets rid of the aftertaste.” Cana shook her head, her brunette locks swaying back and forth from the motion.

“Let’s just find a boat to the island and get this Quest done.” Erza looked like she just wanted to find the nearest bakery and eat an entire strawberry cheesecake single-handedly. What the Requip Mage wouldn’t do to get rid of the horrid taste of the potion.

“Shouldn’t be too hard to find a ship at least,” Gray shrugged as the group split up to try and find transportation to Galuna Island.

Several minutes later and the group found out just how hard their task was.

“Galuna Island? You’ve gotta be kidding! I refuse to sail anywhere near there!” A rather rotund old man refused Lucy instantly.

“Stop. I don’t want to hear anymore. I don’t even want to know your name.” A Captain with a wide-brimmed hat and a decorated coat refused Erza as he quickly walked away.

“There’s absolutely no way I’m sailing anywhere near that island.” A sailor gruffly refused Cana. It was the first time in their short conversation that he’d pulled his eyes off her bikini-clad breasts.

“The sailors around here won’t even talk about that island.” A sailor shook his head and waved Gray away.

“That place is cursed.” A sailor working the dock shook his bandana-covered head at Mira. “There’s very little in the world with worse luck than that.” He refused to talk any further about it.

“I don’t know why you want to go,” A sailor with a smaller boat looked Natsu in the eye. His face was stern, with a black goatee, slightly pointed ears, and a white bandana covering his head. He wore a light-beige cloak over his body, a white tank top, and dark workmen’s pants along with leather boots. “But you won’t find any sailor to take you. Not even pirates go near that island.”

The group of Mages reconvened near Natsu’s location to report their attempts. None of them were positive. There wasn’t a sailor, Captain, or ship of any kind that would sail towards Galuna Island for any amount of Jewel.

“The guy I asked stared at my tits more than he talked to me.” Mira rolled her eyes at the interaction. “The instant I said Galuna Island was when he finally stopped staring and then refused.”

“Same here,” Lucy sighed heavily. “The old man just kept running his eyes up and down my body until I mentioned Galuna. Then he flat out refused and shooed me away.”

“If we were going anywhere else they’d probably be lining up to take us, just so they could stare some more,” Cana huffed at the multiple refusals. “Bunch of cowards.”

“So I guess we’ll have to swim then.” Natsu nodded as he started stretching.

“Aye!” Happy agreed as he copied Natsu’s stretches.

“Like hell,” Gray refused while looking at Natsu as if he was an idiot. “I’ll use my Magic and make a boat out of ice before we try something that suicidal.”

“The sea around here is known for its sharks,” Erza nodded thoughtfully. But she looked like she might take the swim as a challenge.

“Magic?” The sailor that Natsu had been talking to overheard the group. “Are you all Mages?”

“Yes, we are,” Erza confirmed with a sharp nod to the man.

“You wouldn’t be…going to rid the island of its curse, would you?” The man looked a bit shaken.

“That’s the Quest we’ve taken on,” Natsu showed the man the ‘in-progress’ Quest flier. “We’re from Fairy Tail.”

“Get on,” The sailor stated as he motioned towards his boat. “I’ll take you there, to Galuna Island.”

“Really?” Lucy looked shocked at the man’s change of heart.

“Yes,” He agreed as he began to prepare his boat to sail.

“Alright, we found a ride to the island.” Gray looked pleased that he wouldn’t have to make a boat from his Ice Magic.

The group of Mages was quickly on board and the small boat cast off from the docks. They sailed along with the current for a short time before the sailor altered their course slightly and they headed for an island that was just barely visible, peeking over the horizon.

“Why did you suddenly decide to take us?” Mira questioned the man as they sailed along. Porlyusica’s potions worked well, but they weren’t one-hundred percent effective. The Dragon Slayers weren’t feeling like they were going to vomit the last three meals they’d had, but that didn’t mean they weren’t still a little motion sick.

“My name is Bobo. Long ago…I was a man of that island.” Bobo informed the Fairy Tail Mages. “I escaped that awful, cursed island.”

“What is the curse anyway?” Happy asked the man curiously. Knowing what they were dealing with would make their job a lot easier.

“The tragedy will fall upon you, too.” Bobo stared them down with a grave tone. “That is what it means to go to that island. Do you really think you can remove the curse?” He pushed his cloak back to reveal his left arm, a demonic limb that was black with clawed fingers. “The demon curse.”

“So that’s what you are,” Mira relaxed slightly making Bobo, and everyone else, turn to her in shock. “I thought your presence was a bit odd. I didn’t think you were a demon though.”

“Huh?” Bobo nearly gaped at the Take-Over Mage.

“I’m very well acquainted with demons and their natural presence,” Mira explained to him. “I’d thought you were another Take-Over Mage like me at first, so I was being wary of you. But after you told us that you used to live there and showed us your arm, I figured it out.”

“That’s Mira for you,” Erza praised her rival with a smile. Mira gave the redhead a flirty wink for the compliment.

“Long before this Quest was ever posted, Galuna Island was also known by another name,” Mira grinned at her fellow Mages. “The Demon Island.”

“Demon Island?” Lucy parroted with a cute look of confusion on her face.

“Yes, a Tribe of Demonfolk lives on Galuna Island and has for as long as anyone can remember. They used to share the island with humans in ages past, but the humans left the island behind when conflict broke out between them.” Mira recalled from her research into demons. A person didn’t just stumble upon powerful Demons like the ones that Mira had Taken Over in her time as a Mage. It took a lot of studying and delving into history to find the places that old and powerful Demons and Devils called home. Only on two occasions had Mira ever found a powerful Demon on a Quest and taken it over. That included the Eisenwald Incident with Lullaby.

“So you know,” Bobo exhaled as the island drew nearer. “That settles my concerns, thank you.” He gave the group a relieved smile. “I cannot stay on the island as long as the curse is in effect. It messes with the minds of Demons. It confuses us, makes us forget who and what we are. Please, I don’t know what’s causing it, but please get rid of the curse that’s plaguing my Tribe.” He gave them all a deep bow.

“No problem,” Natsu grinned at the Demon man. “We’ll break this curse, no problem!”

“Maybe we should find out what the curse actually is before we boast like that?” Lucy suggested cautiously to her boyfriend. That’s what they’d agreed upon their relationship being at the moment. Once she was ready, they’d go further and deepen their relationship into something much more intimate.

“We’ll figure it out,” Cana shrugged and tried to relax as they sailed closer to Galuna.

When the boat got closer to the island, Bobo seemed to get more and more nervous and agitated. Noticing his discomfort, the group from Fairy Tail told him to stop the boat when they were still close to fifty meters from the shoreline. To Bobo’s amazement, Gray had stood up once the boat slowed to a stop, the Mage took a stance for a moment before using his Magic.

“Ice Make: Floor!” Gray swiped his hands, opening his arms wide, and the ocean between the small boat and the beach froze over.

“We’ll walk from here, Bobo!” Natsu grinned as he stepped off the boat and onto the thick ice.

“Retreat from the island and wait for one of us to signal you that the curse is broken.” Erza instructed as she also stepped off the boat.

“We’ll see you soon, I’m sure.” Mira waved as she left the boat too.

“Thank you for the ride,” Lucy gave the Demon man a short bow as she followed after the others.

“Maybe they can succeed,” Bobo mused before turning his boat away from the island and the horrid effect it had on the minds of Demons. He would do as asked and wait until he saw a sign from one of the Mages before sailing towards his home once again.

-On the Island-

“Happy, can you fly above the trees and find this village that Bobo mentioned?” Natsu asked of the flying, blue cat.

“Aye sir!” Happy’s white wings formed and he took off into the air.

“Now we wait,” Cana yawned as the sun was beginning to set.

The group didn’t have to wait too long for Happy to return. The cat had spotted what appeared to be the only settlement on the island. With his directions the Fairy Tail Mages found a well-used path and headed for the village. In short order the seven of them stood before a large, wooden wall made of logs. The gate was also made of the same logs, but seemed to be reinforced with a few bands of iron. A sign with the word ‘Keep Out’ was attached to the large gate.

“Halt!” A sentry called down to them from atop the wall. “Who goes there?”

“We’re from the Mage Guild Fairy Tail; we’ve come to complete the Quest you posted.” Erza spoke up loudly, locking eyes with the sentry.

“Fairy Tail?” The second sentry questioned the first. “Was that the name of the Guild that accepted the Quest?”

“Yeah, yeah, that was it.” The first sentry nodded after looking puzzled for a moment. “I’ll want to see your marks first.”

All of them showed their Guild Marks to the two sentries without a problem. The two men looked contemplative for a moment, almost as if they were having trouble remembering what the official Fairy Tail Mark looked like. Eventually the two men seemed to reach a consensus.

“They look like the real thing…” The first sentry whispered to the second.

“The women, remove your clothes!” The second sentry ordered. His partner looked at him as if he was crazy.

“What was that?!” Lucy covered crossed her arms over her chest.

“What reason do you have for such a demand?” Erza looked stone-faced as she glared up at the sentries.

“I think they want their asses kicked!” Mira growled while cracking her knuckles.

“I’ll help you,” Cana suddenly had two cards in her right hand that glowed slightly with magical power.

“Sorry!” The second sentry flinched backwards. “I got carried away!” They all heard the first sentry call him an idiot a second later.

“Please enter, we’ll call the Chief.” The first sentry stated as the gate was opened for them.

As the Mages entered the village proper, they were greeted by a normal-looking village. Houses, shops, storage buildings, everything seemed like it was as it should be. The villagers were the only oddity as the group that came to greet them all wore long cloaks that covered them from head to foot.

“I greet you, young Mages,” The villager in front, holding a wooden staff with the head shaped like the crescent moon, greeted them. “I am Moka the Chieftain of this village. There is something you need to see immediately. Everyone, remove your cloaks.”

The villagers all dropped their cloaks and revealed human bodies with demonic features or entire demonic limbs. All of them looked mismatched with their partial transformations. Mira was sharply reminded of when she’d first come to Fairy Tail, completely unable to control her own innate Magic.

“Your sideburns are huge!” Natsu gaped at the Chief in shock.

It was true; the old man had not a single hair on his head, but had thick, long sideburns that hung down to his waist. No one else mentioned them, but all of the humans, plus Happy, agreed that the old Chief’s sideburns were rather odd. The exclamation of shock at Moka’s sideburns, rather than their partially demonized appearance, made all of the villagers stare at Natsu.

“Er…that wasn’t what I wanted you to notice…” Moka had a blank face as he held up his black, demon arm for them to see. “Every creature on this island, dogs, birds, everything, is afflicted by this same curse.” Looking around the Mages did notice a few animals with demon-like horns or limbs. “The reason we appear like this has something to do with the magic of the moon.”

“Magic of the moon?” Lucy tilted her head confused. She’d heard of all sorts of Magic in her life, but never Moon Magic.

“Once, this island was known for gathering moonlight and shining beautifully. But some years ago the moon started taking on a purple color when viewed from this island.” Moka continued his explanation without much pause.

“I’ve never seen the moon do that.” Natsu looked skeptical at the claim.

“Neither have I,” Cana shook her head as she listened.

“Every outsider says the same thing,” Moka informed the group with a cough. “But it is when the purple moon appears that our forms change.”

“The moon’s coming out right now though,” Happy pointed upwards where the clouds had begun to thin considerably.

“It really is purple,” Erza looked on in shock as they all beheld the purple moon.

“The color is almost sickening,” Gray remarked about the shade of purple.

“This is the curse of the moon magic!” Moka declared before all of the villagers forms changed into demons. Horns, fangs, claws, scales, all of the demons were different, but they certainly didn’t look human anymore. “Forgive us if we startled you…” The old Chieftain coughed. “We take on these demon forms whenever the purple moonlight shines upon us. It is only when the sun rises in the morning that we return to our human forms.”

“What the hell?” Gray breathed out at seeing the transformation.

“This curse is caused by the magic of the purple moon,” Moka declared while pointing his staff at the moon. “The only way to remove the curse is to destroy the moon!”

“Huh?!” All of the Fairy Tail Mages gaped at the ridiculous idea.

The Chieftain was almost hysteric about destroying the moon. It took a while for the other villagers to calm him down. When he’d been settled the Fairy Tail Mages had been offered accommodations for their stay on the island. Food was brought to them and the Mages were left alone for the night. While they were getting settled, they all began to talk about the Quest.

“I think it’s obvious that we can’t reach the moon to destroy it.” Erza commented as the group sat around the large room they’d been provided.

“No kidding, how’re we supposed to do the impossible?” Gray asked rhetorically, a frown on his face.

“It’s doubtful that the moon has anything to do with it directly,” Cana mentioned as she sipped at a local alcohol that the village produced. “They only see the purple moon on this island. That means it has to have something to do with the island itself.”

“Something in the air, maybe?” Lucy offered her thoughts.

“It’s possible,” Mira murmured as she took on a thinking pose. “Demons react differently to some forms of Magic than Humans do. If some kind of Magic was being used against them, something they couldn’t see, a Magic that for some reason also makes the moon look purple, they’d naturally jump to the conclusion that the moon was responsible.”

“So whatever this ‘curse’ is, it’s probably a form of Magic that’s being used on this island then.” Natsu was racking his brain trying to come up with a solution to their problem.

“But who is using the Magic and can it be dispelled?” Erza brought up the next point. If it was Magic, then someone had to be using it to cause this effect. Natural Magic was exceedingly rare and often didn’t last long or have lingering effects like this. “I have a weapon or two that can dispel certain forms of Magic, but without knowing what type of Magic this is I don’t know if any of them will work.”

“This is the only village on the whole island, if someone here was using this Magic they’d have surely been found out by now, right?” Lucy looked between her friends.

“Probably, which means someone else is on this island using whatever this Magic is.” Cana frowned at the thought. “We may have a Dark Mage or multiple Dark Mages on this island, hiding and working whatever Magic this is on the villagers for some reason.”

“Just what we need,” Gray growled at the thought of Dark Mages harming innocent people. Demonfolk were peaceful, more often than not, and only people that didn’t know the difference between Demonfolk, Demons, and Devils, had any problem with them. “So we need to search the island and see if we can find the ones responsible.”

“That’ll be our first priority in the morning,” Mira agreed as she looked out the window towards the purple moon. “The faster we figure this out, the less these people have to suffer under the confusion and memory loss.”

“So we have our first objective tomorrow morning,” Erza declared with her fist raised in front of her. “We’ll scour the island to find anyone that doesn’t belong here.”

“That sounds like the best thing we can do,” Cana spoke up with a nod. “It’s not like we actually believe it’s the moon causing this.”

“We should probably start shortly after sunrise,” Mira mentioned as she pondered the best course of action. “That would give us the most daylight to search the island with.”

“Agreed,” Erza nodded to Mira and everyone else agreed to the plan.

“If we’re going to be up that early, we should probably get to bed soon.” Natsu noted as Mira shut the window to block out the eerie purple moonlight.

“You’re right, Natsu,” Lucy looked around the large room they’d been provided by the villagers. “But it doesn’t look like there are separate rooms or anything.”

“I’ll fix that,” Mira grinned while placing her hands on the wooden floorboards. “Sorry Gray, you get the small room.” With that and a glow of green Magic, the floorboards began to grow and expand under Mira’s power. Wood grew into thick planks and then fused into a solid wall. Once the spell stopped, the wall reached from floor to ceiling and cut Gray off from his Guild mates.

“Did you really have to take almost all of the room for yourselves, Mira?” Gray questioned the wall, seeing that he had maybe fifteen percent of the room left to him.

“Yes.” Was Mira’s muffled reply through the wall separating them.

The simple bedding they’d been provided was quickly set up next to each other on the Dragon Slayers’ side of the room. The girls and Natsu easily prepared for bed as normal. Natsu slipping off his vest and kicking off his sandals was the first one done. Erza requipped into simple pajamas, cotton lounge pants and a loose t-shirt that was clearly Natsu-sized. Cana kicked off her own sandals and removed her capris, leaving her in just her bikini top and panties. Mira pulled off her shoes and shorts leaving only her tank top and panties on.

“Come to bed, Lucy.” Cana smiled at the Celestial Spirit Mage warmly. The Dragon Slayers were already in the large bed they’d made from all of the bedding they’d been provided.

“Alright,” Lucy nodded, clearly aware of Natsu’s amber eyes on her. She unzipped her top and shrugged it off. Her bra-clad breasts bounced at the motion. Her bra was a dark-navy color and simple in design with little to no frill. Her belt was removed next, shortly followed by her skirt. Her matching panties were revealed to the eyes of her dragon family and she felt her cheeks turn pink. She unlaced her boots and pulled them off next. She reached behind her and unclipped her bra; she held it over her girls for a second, just to settle herself, before removing it and letting Natsu see her tits for the first time.

“You’re beautiful, Lucy.” Natsu smiled warmly at his girlfriend.

“Thank you, Natsu,” Lucy knew her cheeks had just gone from pink to red, but the happy smile on her face practically lit up the room. The brown-eyed young woman pulled a t-shirt from her pack and slipped it on for the night. “All done.”

“Right here, Lucy~” Mira giggled as she patted a spot between her and Natsu on the makeshift bed.

Lucy thought she had her blush under control, but was quickly proven wrong when she realized that she’d be sleeping between Natsu and Mira. With a flustered smile Lucy crawled into the bedding and lay down next to Natsu. The two gazed into each other’s eyes for a second before their lips met as if by instinct. Natsu wrapped his right arm around Lucy’s waist as he pulled her closer to him. Lucy’s soft curves pressed up against Natsu’ muscled body as they kissed and she hummed in pleasure at the closeness. Lucy’s arms gently wrapped around Natsu as she enjoyed his warmth and their kiss. When they separated from their lip lock, Lucy squeaked as her lips were gently captured by Mira’s.

I’m kissing Mira!’ Lucy exclaimed internally as she shyly kissed back. Mira didn’t push her and only smiled lovingly at the blonde when she pulled back.

“Goodnight Lucy,” Mira’s soft smile brought a smile to Lucy’s lips too.

“Goodnight, Mira,” Lucy returned. Out of the corner of her eye she noted that Erza and Cana had just separated from their own kiss.

More kisses were shared, as each girl kissed Natsu goodnight and then kissed each other goodnight afterwards. Lucy’s face was burning red, but the silly little smile on her lips couldn’t be removed. Lying curled up into Natsu’s side with Mira’s incredible body pressed up against her back was as cozy as she’d ever been. She looked at Erza across Natsu’s chest, with Cana pressed up against the redhead’s back. Erza gave her a warm grin as she snuggled into Natsu and closed her eyes. Lucy quickly followed suit, the soft rise and fall of Natsu’s breathing lulling her to sleep.

-Galuna Island Ruins-

“It appears that Mages have come to the island, Reitei-sama.” A cloaked man bowed to a helmeted man wearing a finer cloak.

“So the villagers sent out a Quest?” Reitei questioned rhetorically without concern. “It is of no consequence, our goal will not be impeded. Should these Mages prove to be a nuisance, then we will deal with them.”

“Of course, sir.” The cloaked man agreed. “We shall start the ritual momentarily.” With that the short man stood up and walked off to join his fellow chanters.

“Yuka, Toby, Sherry, you three will patrol the ruins tomorrow.” Reitei stated without any room to disagree. “If the Mages find their way here, drive them off or kill them, whichever is necessary.”

“Yes, sir.” Two men and a woman replied as a bright purple light descended onto a massive sphere of ice before them.

“Soon, Deliora, soon we will have our confrontation.” Reitei stared at the titanic demon sealed within the ice that was being bathed in the purple moonlight.

Well, with a different set of members on this Quest, things have certainly changed.

Bobo didn’t have to pull his disappearing act, the boat didn’t get washed ashore, and Mira has already figured out that the villagers are Demonfolk and not Humans. This has led the team to already figuring out that something is amiss on Galuna Island.

Now it’s only a matter of time before the two opposing Mage groups meet!

We also saw another small step of progress in Lucy’s relationship with her new family. Natsu has seen the glorious girls of Lucy Heartfilia for the first time. Lucy has been given kisses by the other girls, on the lips! Now Lucy gets to spend her first night sleeping in the same bed as Natsu snuggled up into his side with her head on his chest. So cute!

How will the meeting between these two opposing forces go?

Keep reading to find out!

Until I get your reviews, later!

And thus we start Galuna Island. Oh man, Lyon is NOT prepared for this. XD Wonderful chapter Kairo.

LuluViBritania

Nice Chapter and the polycule of 5 becomes 6, atleast i assume Lucy joining them like that means it does. Leon is definetly not prepared. What Ultear will do has me curious, since her cover as a Magic councilor is likely more important then risking discovery here
