Please keep in mind that a Philosophers stone amplifies alchemy as well as bypasses equivalent exchange(not really because technically your just using souls in place of equivalent exchange) but Ed still doesn’t really know medical alchemy and he did use his soul to power that transmutation so the results would’ve been the same. In order to be fully healed he would need alchemist like dr Marcoh. So them waking him up and giving him the stone would have accomplished nothing.

Also, Van Hohenheim is not a Homunculus. He is a human who has had a Philosophers stone fused to his soul. He was born human and therefore able to have children. Father is a homunculus though. As for how he was made...Idk what exactly you consider a spoiler so I’m gonna hold off on that

I mean he wouldn't have had to use his own life force.....but I'd agree with you that a stone wouldn't have helped him heal himself better.

I don't know if we ever found out what Ed thinks about it, but earlier Al was disgusted by the idea of even using a philosopher's stone. I kind of got where he was coming from, since there's basically no way to make one that doesn't involve killing innocent people. I'd sort of like it if they both managed to make it through the whole series without having to kill anyone or use a stone. It really seems like that would be more in line with their convictions. They sort of decided to do what's right even if it gets them killed. It feels like the story is setting them up to show the sort of morality that all the older alchemists should have when they were being ordered to commit genocide in Ishval. I'm really glad you're watching this, because I gave up on it a couple episodes in when it was new and each new episode has been fascinating. I'm ready for them to get away from the action, though. For some reason, I like the parts where they're discovering new things or meeting new characters way more than any part with fighting.

I honestly think they are being way too stubborn about it. I would never create a philosopher stone; but if it's already made and I got my hands on one, why shouldn't anyone put it into good use? The lives lost in the stones cannot be brought back, but the Elrics can use it to get their bodies back, or not having to use their own life force as energy

It's both Edward's strength and weakness that he's so idealistic and naive. He's got principles and that has gotten him respect and good results so far but he's in the wronnnnng neighborhood to be swinging around how he absolutely refuses to kill in any situation, for god sake Ed this is war, and that right there was Kimblee lol, probably the worst opponent to face with such principles

I kinda disagree with him being the worst just because he believes in standing by ur convictions. I would imagine if he saw Ed’s display there he would more than likely leave them to get help but I could be colored by him at the end of the story.
