It has just arrived and I took it out for a walk immediately to compare it again the Sonos Roam and my old Flip 4. It’s a huge step above the Flip 4 with a fuller and more balanced sound and nicer treble which is not as harsh. Sound dispersion is very good thanks to the tweeter and treble has a nice high quality to it. It sounds comparable to the Sonos being even clearer but I prefer toning treble and mids down 1 notch while increasing bass 1 notch at the same time to get a more balanced sound (this works for both low and high levels, otherwise treble can become a bit too dominant.)

For maximum volume I would reduce treble completely, it’s still louder fuller and with less distortion than the Sonos. The Flip 4 cannot compete at all.

It’s by far the best Flip from the entire series and maybe the best portable speaker from JBL (Xtreme etc is just too big to be taken around). The bass has a nice kick to it which JBL is so famous for, is really fun to listen to even outdoors. It keeps bass at a high level up to half volume but then it’s already louder than the Sonos when playing at 2/3.

Highly recommended from what I could hear until now. Interesting would be also a comparison against the Soundcore Boost but as long as this suffers from processing issues I won’t even take it seriously.
