Sonos Roam - further impressions

Maybe 2 stormbox micros in stereo would be a good comparison. I think a pair of these sound pretty good and are still half the price.

They lack refinement, they have quite a weird tuning with some mid-boost and they lack dynamic bassboost for low levels. They are still great for what they are, but the Sonos sounds way more sophisticated especially at lower and normal levels.

Yeah the tuning is not as good as the maxsound plus for example but with some simple eq i think they improve quite a bit. I have a pair aswell as a pair of xsound gos. For the price i think they are great.

In the first videos with the Sonos Roam you were not so happy with it. At least that was my impression. Now I see it has been growing on you. I have to say that it is sounds great for it’s size, and also it great that is has airplay, at least for me. Any chance to try the sonos move? Anyway, nice video!

At first I thought the Tribit was the Maxsound Plus, and was wondering about the lack of bass, and suspected Xbass was turned off. When I eventually realized it was the little brother, the sound made more sense. I suppose the Roam would win over the Maxsound Plus as well?

Well for the record i still don't find this speaker as amazing as you tell, i blame it to that boomie bass that still scratches when looking at the price, even eqed its to much upper bass and too little low one to compensate how small it is. But i do understarnd the reason you like as you shown that for such a size its one of the most honest for this size and well good silky treble. Also i was expecting for you to compare it against the sony xb33, well the anker also works really well but in this case doesn't the xb33 do better on treble?? How is it compared to the sonos on treble and mids also? Bass ik that it will be better.

From what I could hear until now the Move has some weird treble timbre, they use a waveguide or something similar to get a better dispersion but all those solutions always result in some strange artificial sounding treble. (See Soundlink Revolve, Homepod Mini, and some B&O speakers). The Move has that same character which I don’t really like.

I wonder why SONOS sounds more full in the low frequency range despite the lack of resonators? The total area of the speakers is about the same as I saw in the photo (I'm talking about Tribit Xsound GO)

Pushed heavily by DSP, but at high levels it cannot manage and reduces bass way more than comparable speakers with PRs
