First note, I've opened up the legacy bonus materials and bonus comic for Chapter 1 to all $2 Patrons, so have fun~

I'm also going to release the bonus comic and materials for the old version of Chapter 2 to $5 Patrons at some point soon since I made the PDF in a fit of productivity this weekend. But I thought I should give a little bg info before that too...

Shown above are the totems of the seven tribes of the Pasori tribes, pulled from the bonus comic. These tribes are:

  • Gulo (beardog)
  • Tovat (fur seal)
  • Ar (gray bear) [also doesn't exist anymore]
  • Kan (wolf)
  • Kal (catamount)
  • Llivor (reindeer)
  • Mepat (skunk)

The first four are the northern tribes, the last three are the southern tribes that the northern tribes make fun of because they're hella thawed, they live below the permafrost line for god's sake. Here's some quick and dirty info on the seven

  • Gulo- filled the void left by the Ar tribe, p much. The Emperor is Gulo, and his father Sadar united all the tribes!! So that's cool. Unfortunately all the other tribes secretly/ unsecretly resent the fuck out of them now, but that's impossible to avoid
  • Tovat- nobody really talks to these guys, they're weird. They live way out on the ice sheet, who even does that.
  • Ar- used to be the most dominant tribe until they were decimated by Caris. Now everyone talks about them like they represent "the good old days" even though at the time of their supremacy everyone hated them, haha
  • Kan- pretty much well liked, they sort of straddle the line between being northern and southern, and tend to get along with everyone. They're great drinking buddies and like to scrap.
  • Kal- they're okay I guess. Kinda awkward. Reputation for being easy to interact with but fake as hell and untrustworthy, but that's better than being stupid
  • Llivor- the best-liked of the Southern tribes, they have more traditional values and keep to themselves/ maintain strict borders. Generally speaking "you stay over there and I'll stay over here (or else I'll stab you a lot)" is their motto.
  • Mepat- the butt of all the jokes, their totem is lame. Also resented by everyone because they and the Llivor are the interface between the old designated lands of Borea and the old state of Mesda, but the Mepat were the ones responsible for having sold off tribal land rights because... honestly they just wanted to trade for guns. They're still invited to tribal meetings but are considered to be stupid assholes.

Individuals from the tribes are expected to follow the leadership style of their totem, but obviously individuals deviate from these stereotypies all the time~

Kathryn JWB

The amount of world-building you've done for this comic is mind-boggling. I've spent hours immersed in the wiki page and I still don't feel like I got through everything. But I think this is one of the things that makes a great comic/story--when you create details that won't ever surface in the comic pages, I think they still add richness to the characters that they wouldn't otherwise have. Thanks for sharing; I'm grateful for (and a little in awe of) your prolific imagination.

I agree with Kathryn JWB! The comics I am most drawn to are ones that have impressive world-building, and yours are among those that I always read as soon as I see a new one. I don't just read your works (and those of others like Evan Dahm and Kate Ashwin) because they are fun to read, but because they make me THINK and they make me FEEL something beyond myself and outside of the world I know. Your world-building and character-building skills are amazing to me, too, especially those aspects you've created or noted that just help inform the characters' actions and emotional responses--those that never explicitly show up in-story. ~Jessica
