So glad you did this series, it's a real gem. Sadly, season 2 was a pretty big disappointment, but season 3 is a pretty good watch. Neither measured up to this first one though. It was just a magical combination of the right script, the right director, and two absolutely jaw dropping performances. As far as crime related thrillers, there are just so many great films to choose from, but I would recommend the movie 'Collateral' if you ever get the chance. Amazing performances from both Jamie Fox and Tom Cruise. 'The Usual Suspects' is another great one as well, and has wonderful performances from an amazing ensemble cast. Great reaction as always.

Loved revisiting this series with you Mary! Personally, I don't think its worth it to watch the other seasons from this. They are just not very good. A great crime show I think you would like is Goliath on amazon prime. It has a great mix of detective work and court room drama. Billy Bob Thornton is excellent. Extremely fun bingable show. But mostly Breaking Bad is the best show and I selfishly would love for you to watch that all the way through haha. Totally understand if you want to break it up though. Definitely think Goliath is the closest to the vibe of True Detective season 1. A great Matthew McConaughey crime movie would be A Time To Kill. It's another southern setting crime courtroom drama that I think you would love. It's also just a very reactable movie.

season 3 is worth a watch, but I don't feel like it's reaction worthy. I don't remember much about season 2. it was pretty forgettable. The chemistry of McConaughey and Harrelson is something you can't just recreate. I think you would like Fargo season 1. it's a great crime show with lots of comedic moments.

I agree the closest thing I can think of quality wise that holds your interest and has amazing writing is Fargo Season 1 compare to True detective S1. And obviously Mind Hunter

Hey Mary! I watched this show for the very first time along with you. And then I couldn't wait for the last 2 episodes and watched on my own XD I also watched season 3, and like many are saying it is decent but not that reaction worthy. I'm surprised by your discipline in not binge watching BB lol. If you want to take breaks between, how about something very different, fun, and casual like Rick and Morty? It's a great animated show like you've never seen before.

My Dad and I were talking about this the other day and he likes season 2 the best out of the three. I think Season 1 was one of the best seasons of Television ever made but Season 2 isn't bad in my opinion. It's just a different genre, Season 2 is a modern-day noir once you realize that the show doesn't have the same tone between seasons it makes them good to watch for what kind of story they are telling. The only other crime show that I think is just as good Season 1 of True Detective is the first season of Fortitude which most people never mention or have never heard of, its just as amazing.

Season 1 & 3 are great. Season 2 was totally forgettable. I probably wouldn’t react to it.
