Hi everyone,

This week you can expect Rocky (YO ADRIAN), Breaking Bad and Ssssspider-man no way home! A very cool line-up if you ask me :D.

I'm going to try to work more on the themed polls again. This time I wanted to put the spotlight on another actress and I chose Natalie Portman! She played in a lot of movies that have been requested, so I'm sure we will end up with an amazing pick :). Are there other actresses you want to see a poll on?  I was thinking Meryl Streep or Jodie Foster?

Actresses who deserve a poll: Florence Pugh, Lupita Nyong'o, Emma Stone, Emily Blunt, Jennifer Lawrence

I’m voting for V for Vendetta, but in my heart, it’s Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003).

I think she's a great actress but she's in relatively few movies that I really like, that I think are really enjoyable. On this list it's pretty easy: V for Vendetta, which I figured had a strong chance at winning and Annihilation which I figured would be in 3rd/4th place. Annihilation is *excellent*; it's the last movie I saw in theaters, and I'm glad I did: the sound and visuals are incredible and really great for the theater experience. I'd be really happy with either.

mikethemotormouth

I'll watch anything with Tilda Swinton or Julianne Moore

Tyler Foster

Only thing is she's seen Little Women, so other than Midsommar and Fighting With My Family, that'd be a short poll for Pugh.

Brian Jones

Would really like to see more love for Black Swan.... Everything else has been hit on by almost every reaction channel out there. Especially V and Leon.

Yay, Rocky! And shit, I don't know what to choose. Léon: The Professional, Black Swan and V for Vendetta are all must see's-- and Annihilation, but only after watching Ex Machina (same writer-director). Also, I and many others strongly recommend the European/international cut of Léon: The Professional. When the film was released in the United States, we got a chopped up version of the film. The US version is just titled "The Professional", and it was edited down so that it would play more as a straight action film, rather than a compelling drama with some action in it. Europe and the rest of the world got the full movie (titled "Léon"), which is the definitive version. It's also called the "Extended Cut"-- it's not really extended though, it's just the full movie. Most people react to the Extended European Cut and that's the way to go. The US cut ("The Professional") is a style-over-substance action film, whereas the international cut ("Léon") restores all the substance and tells the full story. Don't confuse the US cut as the "theatrical version" or the "original version", cuz it's not, it's a butchered version of the original film. Please keep that in mind, but again, totally up to you Mari.

I was thinking Lady Bacbeth, Malevolent, Fighting with my Family, Midsommar, Little Women. But if she has seen Little Women would still be 4 left.

Mike LL

Yeah, I'll go along with V. I've been wanting to rewatch it for a long, long time and I'd love to see it with Mary. So, so excited to see her No Way Home reaction. Knowing Mary, she has probably already seen it, and I can't wait for the reaction.

Jimmy Crackcorn

Annihilation is the perfect movie for a Mary-reaction. You know, with a ton of "What the quack!"s in there.

Jodie Foster and Meryl Streep? Awesome taste. Two of the best (and personal favorite) actresses. Jodie Foster movies to consider; "Taxi Driver" and "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" (both Martin Scorsese who directed Goodfellas and Wolf of Wall Street)-- Taxi Driver is a psychological crime film. A great sci-fi film "Contact" by Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump, Back to the Future), the tense thriller "Panic Room" by David Fincher (Se7en, Fight Club, Zodiac). Other good Jodie films include the iconic courtroom drama "The Accused", the crime/heist thriller "Inside Man", the underrated thriller "The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane", also the coming-of-age drama "Foxes" and the comedy western "Maverick" with Mel Gibson. Meryl Streep movies to consider; "The Deer Hunter", an epic about the effects of war on Vietnam veterans (won Best Picture). Meryl starred in two of the most iconic courtroom dramas ever; "Kramer vs. Kramer" and it's about family law! The other is "A Cry in the Dark" (aka "Evil Angels"), a true story about the world famous Australian dingo trial. Others include conspiracy drama "Silkwood", the true story about the nuclear power plant whistleblower. "Doubt", a drama about the Catholic church. And also "The Devil Wears Prada" and the Woody Allen comedy "Manhattan".

Little known fact: Natalie Portman had a cameo in Master and Commander as the flightless cormorant.

Similar to a black swan, yes? Must be set in the same universe.

shaneth138

Black Swan is her best by far.

Tyler Foster

I could've been clearer: I mostly think it would be a blow-out for Midsommar, and Fighting With My Family would be the only other one that really put up a fight. Although I guess this is basically the same situation, with four obvious winners.

[Sorry, I accidentally used edit instead of reply. My original comment was about voting for some of the other films not in the top three that were "getting no love"] But in reply to @PickettsChargingPor comment about the Professional, but also @BJ Stephens comment on V: Interesting, as I did not vote for it, but I do think it is a very important film. I say interesting because I know my own personal taste is not to rewatch this movie. My own personal taste is to rewatch V for Vendetta, but interesting again, I agree with BJ that it is slightly overrated. Sorry, I guess I need to get my Internet Troll on, channel my inner demon emoji. I'm working on it! Closer, however, I really rate that movie. Must watch.

BJ Stephens

V...ugh...even as much as I love HW, it's such an overrated film imo.

PickettsChargingPort

I would have but there was literally nothing else I had seen except The Professional and that movie gives me the willies.

To offer some counterpoint and a bit of a correction, the 110-minute version was the version that was released everywhere in 1994, including Europe. The only difference is that in some countries (including the US) it was titled "The Professional," while in most countries it was "Leon." Nowadays, it's usually marketed as "Leon: The Professional." The 133-minute "extended cut" didn't come out until a couple of years later in 1996, first in France and some other European countries. Then it gradually made its way around the world. The director said on at least one occasion that he preferred the extended cut, and on another he said he didn't have a preference. Personally, I prefer the shorter cut; it just has a better pace. There are many who disagree, and that's valid. But for whatever reason, a lot of people believe that the extended cut was what came out first in Europe, and that's just not the case.
