Aaah, my first interaction with the final Spider-Man! I know for others he was the second, but ofcourse I started with Tom Holland and then Tobey. I'm very curious to know which actor you like the most as Peter Parker and which one you like the best as Spider-Man!

1. Tobey Mcguire because he was the first one and this gives him a little advantage over Tom Holland with Andrew Garfield in third Place. i had read awhile ago that Tobey is the best Spider Man, Andrew Garfield is the best Peter Parker and Tom Holland is a mix of both. I think its a good summary of all three

Tobey Spidey is the odd one out, being the only one who actually creates the web in his body

Not sure if you remembered that the character of Flash Thompson was Mary Jane's first boyfriend in the original Tobey Spider-Man (played in the Tom Holland movies by Tony Revolori), that the character of Gwen Stacy was the other girl who Spider-Man kisses in Spider-Man 3 (played in that movie by Bryce Dallas Howard), and finally, the villainous one-armed Dr. Curt Connors (aka The Lizard -- a different villain than Green Goblin) was set up in those movies (but not paid off) as Peter's professor at college who sets him up to meet Otto Octavius (he even had one arm).

As far as the villians. There are quite a few from the comics. A number of which you've seen in the various films and maybe even the shows that you have now watched. Some have been featured to varrying degrees a different times throughout the each depiction.

One thing to know is that they intended to make three Amazing Spider-Man movies, but this iteration of Spider-Man proved unpopular enough with fans -- in particular, because it had to exist while the Marvel Cinematic Universe was exploding (this entry came out the same year as The Avengers) -- that they did not get to make the third movie. So prepare yourself for there to be at least a couple of things they set up that don't really get paid off.

You mentioned 'La La Land'. That would be a great Patreon exclusive if you ever do get around to watching it. The film is amazing. I would also highly recommend 'Tick Tick Boom' if you want to see an absolutely amazing performance from Andrew Garfield (should have won the Oscar this year IMHO). Hamilton is another amazing production as well if you like musicals. I know it's an issue with YouTube and copyright, but again, they would all be great exclusives for subscribers if you don't mind filming your reactions to them. I'd still argue to this day that Andrew Garfield is the best actor to have played the role of Spiderman. There's a sense of genuine fun as well as a dramatic side that I don't even think Holland captures the way Andrew did. The issues with these films really stim from the ages of the actors (both Emma and Andrew were honestly just too old to pull off high schooler's), and some of the writing. But that aside they are still really fun films. There was so much going on at Sony surrounding the entire studio and this iteration of Spiderman sadly got caught in the crossfire of a whole lot of studio politics and scandal. I would still really love to see a third film with Garfield as Spiderman though.

I don't think unpopular would be the right word to use. Both films did quite well at the box office. Both films capped $700 million worldwide and $200 million domestically. The issue was more with Sony and their mismanagement of it all. Especially the second film. The studio managed to almost make the film unprofitable due to sinking an insane amount of money (almost $500 million) into advertising. But Sony had issues with all of their productions between 2014 and 2016 due to all sorts of internal politics and scandals. Probably why they leapt at the chance to team up with Disney/Marvel at the time.... Funny how those tables have turned now.

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone started dating for a couple years after this movie. Just like Tom and Zandeya

I loaded up Netflix and The Amazing Spider-Man was the #2 watched movie in America as of today. I am going to say this was the Mary Effect.

I mean, if you want to watch La La Land, you should do it! Maybe still put out a watch-along commentary for patreon? I would love to see that!

I like them all about equally, but Tobey would land on third every time. Great, fun movies, but I never imagined Spider-Man like the young adult people were making him out to be back then. Which I can completely put out of my mind, but Garfield's performance stood out to me as much more Peter-like. Just the mannerisms, the usual discussion about quips and such... it gets a bit kitschy, but that's a given. Just for me, of course. It's been twenty years, if I'm being honest, I just was into any good entertainment that came along and I didn't really bother dissecting the merits of different spidey actors as long as I had fun. At the end of the day, and this is kind of a moot point too considering how all of them were plenty old at the time of making the movies, Tom Holland takes the cake. Even in his mid-twenties he could easily pass as a high-schooler, but I guess reducing the character to the actors' looks is a bit boring as well. All in all, the entire Spider-Man movie franchise kind of knocked it out of the park, despite all the flaws. The right movies at the right times... to some extent.

Not sure if what you've read about the advertising is true. First of all, it's industry standard to spend the entire budget a second time on advertising (and generally at minimum!), which is why blockbusters the size of movies like this need to make 3x their budget in order to be considered clearly "in the black" (the budget, the advertising, and then another 1x to cover anyone with profit participation deals and to make up for the theaters' cut). On one hand, ASM2's advertising budget was only $180m, which makes that number seem high, but on the other hand, Spider-Man 3 did end up reportedly costing Sony between $250 and $350m BEFORE advertising, so these movies were always getting bigger and bigger after the first two broke so many records. My guess is they probably spent more than the movie cost to make (high-end estimate $230m), and the total spend of production AND advertising was in the $500m range, which makes the movie slightly short of 3x before video, but still profitable with that figure included.

I liked this Spider man better than Sam Rami's. Rami Spider man is silly and cringe. There are some good parts. This Spider man hits close to my teens years. Yes that was Coldplay. Growing up, I always heard of Mary Jane, but never Gwen Stacy who was Peter Parker's first girlfriend. Sadly, you have to watch Amazing Spider Man 2 lol. You can watch Spider Man Into The Spider verse now

What a waste of money; it's so obvious you've either seen this before, or you couldn't care less about it - have you never seen that cat before? Because you spent a good hour lovingly staring at it

Geez, who pissed in your Cheerios this morning? Goddamn.

Look man, I’m not bothered about dressing it up; it just feels pretty disingenuous when someone’s making money out of something that comes across so scripted, which if it isn’t, then it’s the alternative where I’m watching someone go “oh wow” every 4 minutes over something they don’t seem to care about in the slightest - she was more interested in the cat. it’s not worth losing sleep over regardless, but as I’ve now put a little money down, I felt I had a right to voice some criticism. All the best.

movieswithmary

Hi there. I'm sorry the reaction was not up to your expectations. I am very open about what movies I have seen in the past, and this one was not one of them. If you think I come across as uninterested I apologize for that. About the cats, I checked because if true that is a valid concern: Luna was in the screen approximatly 4 minutes (while I was just still watching), Siel was walking past for approx 4 minutes too and indeed, I did look away a few times during those minutes. Since we're talking about being genuine, I think a reaction where my pets walk by is way more genuine than me locking them away for hours so I wouldn't miss a few seconds of footage every now and then. So if you think that is annoying, that's absolutely understandable but something I don't want to change. I'd still like to thank you for your support and am sad that you didn't enjoy the reaction.

I just feel that it came across like you were extremely uninterested - in the interest of honesty, I stopped watching a little bit after you picked up the cat, so I’ll happily admit that I was being hyperbolic in regards to that claim, but the aforementioned seemingly apparent lack of interest had already tuned me out. I didn’t come here looking to be a dick, & I apologise if my comment came across as abrasive, but I guess I was just expecting you to be more into what you were watching, considering you’ve been watching the spider-man films in a build up to No Way Home; I thought you’d be engaged, pointing out connections & similarities between the films and characters, but you seemed fairly checked out from the onset. Again, I’m not trying to be a dick here, but I just wanted to voice how I felt from what I saw, there’s no ill will involved, & I wish you all the best.

Brian

What you are asking for is for the reactor to be an actress. I find the comic book films uninteresting and I would always vote that she watch something different. How many more movies could she be watching where she'll have genuine interest because the movie is great.

Anonymous

That’s far from what I’m asking for dude, I just want her to be genuinely interested in what she’s watching; if she isn’t then it’s fair enough, but in that case I’d rather she just skip it entirely - I’m a huge film buff, so I can understand wanting her to watch other things, but I’ve always had a soft spot for comic book movies because I grew up reading the source material.

I mean, it'd be valid criticism if it wasn't voiced like a kid's temper tantrum. I totally understand the feeling, every time reactors I watch look up anything off-screen or otherwise ignore the movie, I get irrationally annoyed at them. I guess mostly because it's a problem with such an infinitely easy solution - pausing the movie - and because I know exactly how much anyone is missing by not looking at the screen. That being said, there are way better ways to put forward legitimate criticism and calling Mary out for being "disingenuous" when her reacting to her cats might literally be the most heartfelt thing to her - and all the conjecture following - is just rude and bad manners. Most of all though: at least try and contribute. I provided a simple attempt at resolving the issue for everyone involved, that's the least anyone complaining could do. Ultimately, it's a fine line. And reactors kind of are actors too (without trying to go into parallels to Diamond Age or anything), as is everyone who wants to present a certain image to the outside. It's just that this deliberation is up to her and her alone, complaining about not getting our wish in that fashion might be a bit too much.

“Voiced like a kid’s temper tantrum” dude what are you talking about? While my original comment comes across a bit prickly, I feel I went on to justify what I meant, & well, like you said… it’s “valid criticism.”

I forget how amazing (no pun intended) the visuals are in this movie and its sequel. Someone did an incredible job with the cinematography. Also, not sure if anyone else mentioned, but something that I heard a lot when Tom Holland's version of Spider-Man came out was that Tobey Maguire played a great Peter Parker, Andrew Garfield played a great Spider-Man, and Tom Holland was the perfect mix of both. I feel like that's pretty accurate, but wow I forgot how much these Andrew Garfield movies can hit you in the feels. Even though there are some issues with them, they do a great job with getting you emotionall yinvested in the characters and Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone play a huge part in that.

super late to the party but I'm just gonna say it since no one else is. you're an asshole. cheers!
