Chuck telling Dean not to confuse him with his father pisses me off because it is the ultimate snake oil to getting out of him directly being responsible for his own crap. Like "daddy issues" and "overbearing siblings" are get out of jail free cards and everyone just accepts it instead of working out the issues and change things. As noted by comments above, this season has heart and change themes at it's core and it's seriously it's throwing shade back at BOTH of the boys who have been mopping up 2k year old messes that destroyed their entire existences in the past 10 years. Dean is a wild card (firewall) because he may be virtuous but his dark side comes from the same place...his heart. He is a protector first and foremost but what makes him ultimately happy is making others, especially Sam, happy. His brother can turn Dean on a dime easier than anything else but it is rooted in the heart.

About the whole was chuck god back in s4 debate…. I think this episode shows chuck was always God.. because when Dean asks him where have you been?? Just writing books and attending cons?? Chuck doesn’t correct him and say well that wasn’t me.. that was chuck the prophet before I took his vessel. So I think that kind of shows he was god even then. Maybe what we saw as chuck receiving visions was really him being omnipotent and seeing it. (Although I get that maybe the writers didn’t know from the get go they were going to go in that direction lol)

I think a Kripke likely knew by then.
