UPDATE 2024: I have published a new simpler TEK for growing pan cyan that you may want to jump to but much of the info in this older video may still be of interest to my audience.

After more than a year of work, it's finally done.  The video is now on Odysee and Rumble which are probably the best ways to view it if they don't ban me.  I could not put the video on YouTube due to the censorship there (hopefully people will still be able to find it, feel free to share the link to this post on other sites).  This link to google drive should also work for both streaming and to download the high definition 1080p video, you can even increase the playback speed as on YouTube (on some phones you may need to install the "Google Drive" app to play it).  I also created a smaller more compressed file in 720p that might be better for phones.  The fully updated, written out TEK for growing this species can be found here (UPDATE: there is also a new greatly simplified version here).  Don't be intimidated, this species is very easy to grow, perhaps as easy as cubensis, it just has more contamination risk.  I show you in the vid how to mitigate that risk.  I believe the tide will slowly turn and that the majority of growers will eventually select this species over others, it just took a while before we had an easy TEK and widespread knowledge not just about growing it but how it differs from other species chemically.

Note: A vendor has stepped up to supply grow kits suitable for this TEK, these are NOW AVAILABLE, for full description see: https://www.patreon.com/posts/63406767  or click/tap here for the direct link to the kit.

UPDATE: A new vendor has created kits for my latest TEK that are also great, see: https://www.patreon.com/posts/105964263

Links to all items used in the TEK are in the written version (and newer simple TEK) but I'll put some of the links below anyway along with links to references cited in the video.   Please note that you can substitute coir instead of chopped straw (see the written TEK for exact details) and it works just as well and probably has lower contamination risk.

What are your thoughts on the effectiveness of growing in warmer climates? I see the range is 70 to 85 degrees f, but do you think I would have any success with growing above 85degrees? I want to set to a mini green house, but no room to set one up inside.

If you don’t use peat moss should you also leave out the calcium carbonate? Also is vermiculite and coir an option ? If so what ratio would that substrate be? Much gratitude.

Hey Gordo, thanks for doing this Tek, I can't wait to get started, I just need to find some spores. Do you ever use hydrogen peroxide on Pan Cyans? I tend to spray my cubensis early to try and stop spore development.

GordoTEK

Yes, you can use just verm, no ph adjustment needed. Coir is not desirable for the casing at least for pan cyans because the mycelium loves to eat it and it will probably just colonize it which defeats the purpose. But coir can be used in casings for some other species including cubes and natalensis (basically any species that doesn't really NEED a casing, haha).

GordoTEK

Hydrogen peroxide is a little controversial in the mycology community but it is scientifically proven to inhibit spore germination. Too much will also slow down the mycelium though. Most people don't recommend using it, but I think its fine to use 3% in moderate amounts as shown in my bulk grow vid, it certainly did no harm and may be beneficial and it costs next to nothing. Some people try to use hydrogen peroxide AFTER contamination, but by then it's too late, its main benefit is in preventing contam spores from germinating. If you search pubmed you can find numerous references to hydrogen peroxide inhibiting spores. There is also a very smart man, Randall R. Wayne, Ph.D who created an entire website built around the idea of growing mushrooms using hydrogen peroxide, I don't know if he is still alive, the site no longer seems to exist but the internet archive does: http://web.archive.org/web/20060202062106/http://www.mycomasters.com/index.html#Top
