Horizons Perspectives on Psychedelics Conference (Patreon)
Content
Wrapping up the annual conference today, I've been attending lectures for the last 3 days. Many leading researchers, writers, and pioneers in the field are here. Also a great place to meet and talk with countless enthusiasts and hobbiests from the psychedelic community.
Hamilton Morris spoke about sourcing psychedelics (natural and synthetic). I was able to talk with him afterwards, got him to sign my copy of the book where he describes his version of 5-MeO-DMT synthesis and ask him about his latest work. Good times. In his new job working for the University of the Sciences (Philadelphia) he has already synthesized more than 30 potentially psychedelic compounds just in the last few months. It is fantastic that the University pretty much just lets him do whatever he wants to do (my how the world has changed!). I asked him about timelines for human bioassay, they are not going with "the Shulgin" approach haha, he says it will be years before any human testing is done but that they will publish descriptions of each compound. Then again, if they were doing any human testing, I don't think he would admit it ;)
Hamilton joked about being "the opening act for William Leonard Pickard" who was just released from prison last year despite being given TWO LIFE sentences for being the chemist behind the biggest LSD bust of all time. Pickard's speech was wonderful by the way, and he received a standing ovation. I am so thankful that he was released from prison.
p.s. It's funny how Hamilton looks like he is towering over me in the picture haha, but its a bit misleading because we were on a steep incline (you can see this if you look closely at the triangular shaped steps in the background) and he was on the upward part of the incline ;) He is 6 foot 2 and I'm 6 foot myself, so he is only 2 inches taller ;)
