Visual part for rain is finished and fixed! Shouldn’t be too long now for the public release. Oh, and a new update without a rain, with fixes only, is coming very soon too.

Some of the changes:

  • Fixed wiper guessing;
  • Fixed rain in VR and triple screen;
  • No more rainless cars (some specific cases might still need an adjusted config);
  • Drops shouldn’t become black now;
  • Fixed and updated puddles generation, with per-track puddle adjustment parameter to better account for how racing tracks can drain off water;
  • Fixed relief-based puddles adjusment;
  • Refracting headlights should work better on AMD GPUs (still need some work though);
  • License plates in rain are fixed;
  • Wipers shouldn’t pass rain drops through now and wipe them off windows better;
  • Wet tyres won’t reflect sky in wheel arches anymore, with new tyres reflections masking;
  • That old issue with sky in reflections being too bright is finally fixed;
  • Custom fake shadow generation fixed;
  • Fourth wiper speed is back for modern cars;
  • Some fixes under the hood to improve rendering stability and performance.

Also, unrelated to rain, but I found a way to allow to combine several dynamic texture behaviours within a single mesh:

Both navigator and radio are parts of the same mesh. That should finally allow to start making all sorts of new behaviours, like a more flexibe alternative to original digital instruments or even something scriptable.

Also, I started experimenting with a new flames system (big flame for engine breakdowns, smaller flame), but it’ll take some time for it to get ready.

Now it’s finally time to work on audio and WeatherFX integration! And, well, fix new bugs that I’m sure will keep popping up here and there. Thank you for your support!

Great work! But still AI cars randomized colors in Track Day mode. No way to fix that? There was no problems in v0.1.52

Hi mate. Great job :) Rain works good for me. The flames are firing all the time. Is there a wa to debug? And a small bug is that guessing of AMG GT3 windscreen doesnt work with rain. Keep on going. Wish u all the best

Ok this is great. But I immediately found a bug. With the Nismo GT500 the wiper only wipes half the screen - the half in front of the passenger seat. In previous previews the whole screen was wiped. Is there an ini setting I can edit to fix this? thanks!

It's always raining. Even inside the car my co-driver and his notes are getting wet. (Mod: Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 Pack 3.03)

Awesome, looks like the dust/smoke works as intended now, tyre smoke, gravel dust and rain clouds. Not sure if there was ever a faint dust cloud for going over the grass? The rain is far less annoying although you do occasionally get drops stuck completely over the road in front of you for a few seconds. Scale of the drops is better, I'd say possibly needs to be smaller again but doesn't look wildly wrong. The car I drive the most has just a single layer windscreen with KsPerPixel so no rain effects sadly, but the rain no longer falls inside the car on dashboard etc so it's a big improvement for crappy mod cars LOL. Really good work, looking forward to seeing more!

Hi, thank you for the awseome work! I just noticed that in cars where you have a camera instead of a mirror to look behind you like the Ferrari 488 challenge evo for example that there isn't any rain to be seen in the view of said camera. I have tried with and without "real mirrors" without avail. Is this something that's known or is there some setting I should check?

This is getting better and better, the problem I have is that when removing the rain, the cars and objects are still full of water, the cars leak, the walls are full of water and it is quite annoying even if it is only cosmetic, it would also be fine be able to turn off the rain from CM before starting the game.

That has nothing to do with the RainFX, that is the mod that was made by an awful modder who didn't even parent all the stuff inside to Cockpit_HR. Tell the person who made that car to properly do his mods.

Since previous version you can disable rain in CM settings => custom shader patch => RAIN_FX => uncheck Active.

I send utmost compliments to llja's work. My car is "Mercedes AMG GT3 EVO '20 Extension RC 1.2". The version of Sol is "1.6.2+1.5.5". After updating to lights-patch-v0.1.63-preview47-full the wiper does not work. The wiper moves, but all the water drops remain on the window. With lights-patch-v0.1.63-preview32-full the wiper does the right job. Is there anything I can do to solve the problem? And what can I do for you? I'm not good at English. I used Google Translate.

Try adding the wipers sentence to extension ini. That fix the issue for me previously.

Brilliant build, only real bug I've encountered so far is the same one thats been in all builds I've tested: RHD Cars the wipers clear the Left side of Windscreen not the right.

Brilliant work Ilja, thank you for all your efforts! A couple of feedback items and a couple of questions if you don't mind. I tried the new version last night and noticed a strange spray pattern behind open-wheeled cars, hard to describe and I didn't get a screenshot, but it was like a big rectangle with lines through the middle, like Venetian blinds :). Tried again this morning and couldn't duplicate it, everything seems fine now, so I have no idea what happened. I've also noticed that AC locks up when I try to exit and I have to ctrl-alt-delete to get back to Windows. I have the same problem with 0.1.62, any version before that works just fine. The questions I have relates to the proposed final version. Is the rain/wet track strictly cosmetic or will the wet track lead to decreased grip? The reason I ask is that, at the moment, my lap times are about the same whether it's dry or pouring rain. If indeed there will be reduced grip on a wet track, will car modders have to include an option for rain tires going forward? Again, cograts on an excellent job and looking forward to future enhancements!

In addition, there is a message saying 'unable to create cbuffer'. Going back to version 1.62 fixes everything; game loads right up. Using sol 1.7 alpha 2

Anyone know how to tone down the spray? when following other cars you literally cannot see a thing. Also is there a way to set the ammount of rain and wettnes before a race like edit a ini file?

I am very happy with the progress, the game is so spot on due to you guys. thanks a lot. On some kunos cars, for example the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup 2017 the wipers do work partially, only on the co-driver side, on the driver side the wiper is doing nothing. some other cars have the same issue. and some are working just fine. so the wiper proces is working but only on a part of the windscreen. unfortunately the wrong side :) i have a screenshot, how can i share that here? EDIT: i just posted this comment and the pic in the troubleshooting section on discord.

Just try the latest content manager and lights-patch-v0.1.63-preview47 and enable the extended physics checkbox at the content manager drive screen, load up a laserscanned track, like BrandsHatch, Spa, Nordsleife or zandfoort and try again. You will notice some realistic wet track car physics at work :) Will you let me know what you think after trying that?

I might be doing something weird, but I can't seem to turn off the rain in a quick drive. It seems to disappear in career and online modes. I'll wait for the WeatherFX integration though, just to see if it might be conflicting with Sol. Very excited about this and RaceU.

Think the intention is that in future the rain, wetness etc will be set by the weather you choose in Sol.

Amazing update once again. As for issues I too notice some cars do not wipe the right side of the windscreen. I actually noticed it on some LHD cars as well like the 911RSR '17...(https://i.imgur.com/3o2rJVe.png) Also spray for me sometimes looks more greyish/dusty than white/watery but I guess this may come down to graphics and lightning settings on individual machines. As for the track surface I'm a bit puzzled. Does this require Francesco's Wet Mod? Or is it complimentary? I couldn't manage to get a wet track without the mod so maybe I have some functions turned off. Either way, the looks and feel of it are beyond anything I ever imagined I'd experience in AC - hat is off!

Glad to have this update fixing most of the previous known problems but my refracting headlights are now having an issue, I'm not sure if its mod side or CSP but they were working in the previous build, seems to usually effect my right headlight and right taillight

a fracasso is outdated, the physics that come with RainFX are completely new and will be fully integrated with it

Sorry if seems like dumb question but do I unpack the downloaded shaders lights patch into the MOD folder of my Assetto Corsa MOD folder? Thanks in advance anyone

How to install it? Most reliable way is to open archive manually, select dwrite.dll and extension folder and drag’n’drop them in AC root folder, so dwrite.dll would be next to acs.exe. You can also use Content Manager to install it, but if you’re not sure how to do that, manual copying for now is the safest way.

Please help! With any version of CSP new smoke isn't working for me, I can only see slight blurriness. I even tried full Windows reinstall with fresh Assetto install and CSP, SOL, nothing else. Tyre smoke only becomes visible when illuminated by street lights, exhaust flames etc. What is going on?

Question. I’ve got a car that I’ve modded a lot myself, it originally had one externally facing windscreen face. I’ve cloned that and flipped it so I have one facing in and one out, the inner one is ksWindscreen and the outer one is ksPerPixelReflection with the appropriate values. Rain lands on the glass but doesn’t move in relation to car speed etc. If I set both internal and external to ksWindscreen then I get two layers of raindrops on the screen and one moves properly, but looking at the car from the outside there is no water on the glass at all. I thought maybe the layers were back to front but setting ksperpixelreflection on the inside and kswindscreen on the outside doesn’t work at all. Anyone?

Awesome update! Nice flames to, is there a way to stop them belching constantly when just sitting in the pits though (looks a bit silly)? Also I'm using the Detailed Exhaust Flamethrower mod, would this update have overwritten that or disable those effects? One other question - is there an easy way on my end to fix non-kunos cars that don't get the rain effects and wipers don't work?

That issue with the flames has been covered several times already, believe turning off new windscreen effects will stop it. As for fixing windscreens... that’s what I’m battling with at the moment, see ‘Assetto Corsa Modding Tutorial: Wipers Animation....’ on delpinsky ‘s youtube channel.

any possibility to work with mod cars? in mods when cleaners generally don't move, and when they move they don't clean water. The skins of the tracks also have to be done well to stay cool. fantastic job so far.

I have an issue running it in VR on AMD. So works fine until I run in oculus rift mode, then the graphics card driver crashes, and this error saying comes up: Unexpected errror: Failed operation: 'device->CreateTexture2D(&desc, nullptr, &texture)', error: 0x887a0005, device removed: 0x887a0006 File: source\dx\dx_utils.cpp Function: dx_setp_tex Line: 507 Unsure what causes this as it runs perfectly fine with single screen but doesn't work at all with oculus, I am unsure but I think oculus rift wasn't stable ever since 1.61 (1.60 is fine). Edit: This is on 20.4.2 drivers, vega 64

Someone who said it had been covered a number of times already suggested turning off new windscreen FX but this had no affect for me, flames kept belching by themselves all the time. Unless I don't know how to turn of the new windscreen FX - I went into CSP settings, Windscreen FX and unticked Active under the Extension area?
