Those last few builds were definitely way buggier than I expected, very sorry about this. But how about this one? As you can tell from its preview number, there were a lot of attempts to fix one bug after another. 😅

Main changes:

  • Non-working wipers fixed (by temporary disabling one of features, but it wasn’t that important; going to investigate why it was breaking wipers);
  • Various stability issues at launch fixed;
  • Windscreen drops fixed (main change, tiny drops are back now);
  • Black raindrops in VR fixed;
  • Broken clipping with Graphics Adjustments in VR fixed;
  • Skinned wipers now supported as well;
  • Rainbow look fixed and improved, now it should be visible with default WeatherFX script (visible always, but that will be improved a bit later, with coming WeatherFX integration).

One major bug that I believe is still there is when sprays and rain drops get those black squares, but I’m still figuring that one one. And also, there is a new option in GUI to start the race with throttle pedal now, might be useful.

How to install it?

Most reliable way is to open archive manually, select dwrite.dll and extension folder and drag’n’drop them in AC root folder, so dwrite.dll would be next to acs.exe. You can also use Content Manager to install it, but if you’re not sure how to do that, manual copying for now is the safest way.

Why it doesn’t react to changes of weather type?

It’s still a preview for visual effects. Rest of it, including WeatherFX/Sol integration, is going to follow very soon. Just a couple more visual bugs left to fix.

Is audio broken?

It hasn’t really been worked on yet. Going to be one of next things we’ll be working on, with the help of Peter Boese, the creator of Sol.

What about rain physics?

Check this out, new Content Manager build which can switch on extended physics in Quick Drive automatically! Still pretty experimental though.

Incredible! I'm from Hawaii so big Rainbows are a big deal here.. I can't wait to take some photos of them. Great work and I'm looking forward to it being fully done up.

Amazing update ! I haven't tested all yetbut i love the fact that wipers work (move and water animation on windscreen) on every car so far, wipers sounds.

Sorry guys, maybe it's a stupid question, but is there a way to make rain works without having to use the Weather FX Debug? First, every time I start a new race the rain debug is always ON and it's raining, is it possible to start without the rain? Second thing, if I disable Rain Debug and I set a Dyinamic weather from SOL it will start raining but it will not create puddles or change the phisycs, is it possible to solve that someway? Anyway, you're doing an awesome work on this! Thank you so much

Awesome ! If I have something to say about visuals so far, it's the big chunks of water droplets on the windscreen sometimes (and on driver's window too) It was better with preview 3 and 13 I think, but still, it looks incredible !

It's all becasue Rain_FX is in testing phase. Integration with SOL and Weather FX is ongoing 1) to start without Rain IN Content Mnager go in settings Custom Sahder Patch section and disable Rain_FX 2) As said SOL integration is still not implemented, so SOL can't still manage Rain Fx 3) to enable Rain Physic the best way is now use the new function in CM (see post above): Alternatively you have to unpack car's data.acd move it aside and edit car.ini in data folder as explained some posts ago. But, even I have still to test the new CM manager, I think it's easier to use the new function provided us by Ilja in the experimental version of CM you find attached at the post above.

Anyone else have an issue with wipers not wiping anything off the windshield? Cars that did not have functioning wipers before now have the animation, but none of them actually interact with the rain - including cars that worked with preview 1.62

yes, in CM - CSP - graphic adjustments - un/check "Custom VR mirroring" to fix the FOV blurr for stream purposes etc.. (Y)

Hi, im having a issue that the rain debug options don´t show up on the weather fx app, i have rainfx enabled on cm and i even checked the rain_fx.ini and its enabled, I used to have it before but for some reason it stoped showing up

I have one car from my mod collection which almost completely avoids rain drops - Octavia Cup. I have no idea why but there are no raindrops on the car at all, only on rear wing and wheel rims, what should I do? Do I need to do the "copy cube properties attaching the mesh to simple cube in 3D editor - fix" or there is some simpler solution? The car uses standard shaders, I have no idea why this happens and I want to solve it before I will release next update (car body was correctly detected as Wet surface in csp log). Second thing, sometimes when a car is in the pit and it has flashing lights on the flashes are black (light cone in front of car), restarting the game fixes this issue. And sometimes especially in F5 camera mode I see the driver helmet covered in water inside the car. But the wipers are working now even on cars which had some issues with guessing. This is all I found out after couple of minutes of testing.

Most cars wipers are wiping water from the windscreen but with some cars with working wipers the water stays on the windscreen. The real life rain is almost as real as the rain effect in CSP :D Also the stripes on the screen and the foggy effect are very nice. AC is the best sim because of you ( CM and CSP) and Peter Boese (SOL). Thanks for developing this beyond believe...

If i drive hotlaps with no ai it works perfect and looks stunning really really immersive. Yet when i try out a race in the rain I get black splashes from the other cars that cover the whole windscreen. Also dirt when cars leave the track is red coloured. Reverting back to earlier preview i don't get any of these issues

I'm happy with this build which seems to work correctly with my assetto. I've been suspecting Windows 7 for wscreen anim not working. I also see some black smokes and other glitches. I think this is not solo man project scale and not expecting almost finished public release. Wish you keep healthy progressing. Thank you.

Hi. In Track Day mode, AI opponents will try to force randomize colors even assign a specific skin and uncheck "Shuffle colors" in settings. How to fix that?

Hi, firstly awesome work on these previews the rain FX completely changes the game I love it! the only main issue Im having is I no longer have the smoke working even with the particles fx on. the only time I have some what smoke is when the weather debug wetness is set to 50% which is some sort of a colourful smoke and no where near the same detail and volume like previous versions.

As workaround in CM I disabled FXAA in Assetto Corsa Post Processing options. It seems to work for me, not sure for everybody, but worth to try.

check out the new "rain fx" section in settings of the shader patch. The rain isn't automated yet so just deactivate the whole effect here from content manager

Overall is working fine, i'm still getting a random crash (only once tbf) like the one in the previous build, as meny have mentioned my smoke is messed up, sometimes looks like blur, sometimes is just black.

A few observations of the current build with triple screens: - black squares are randomly occurring when other cars are visible (no reliable cause can be observed what exactly causes them - seems a random trigger) - "stray rain drops" shooting across the viewpoint (it appears these are originating from the own cars tire hitting rain puddles splashing and shoot at weird angles across your vision - a temp fix would be to disable the own car's water splash effect in interior views - rain drops on visor vision is beautiful but can be unrealistic in specific conditions: - racing in a open top Le Mans spider at speed with a short windshield (like a 1958 Ferrari Testarossa or Aston Martin DBR1) - at speed rain drops would not hit the pilots visor as rain is deflected by the windshield, when standing in the grid, rain drops could hit the visor (if not wearing a helmet with shield) - we need some control per car for this (to write into car_config.ini with for example these parameters: [RAIN_ON_VISOR] rain_visor_threshhold_height = 0.9 ; lower than this rain will not be visible on visor, higher then this rain drops can be visible on visor rain_visor_ramp_low = 0.1 ; rain drop effect on visor starts to become visible from here (0.1m BELOW rain threshold) rain_visor_ramp_high = 0.1 ; rain drop effect on visor is fully visible from here (0.1m ABOVE rain threshold) rain_visor_ramp_speed = 20,80 ; rain will be fully visible on visor below low threshold (20 km/h) and will fade completely above high threshold (80) rain_visor_shade_distance = 0.03 ; distance from visor surface to edge of helmet shield (this is to have the visor be shielded from rain when standing in the grid and traveling at low speeds) rain_visor_shade_angle = 10 ; angle in deg of visor surface being shielded from rain at standstill and low speeds - it would be great if we could get some car_config.ini control over which parts of the cockpit will be wet at what speeds in a similar fashion (difficult cars here are the open top prototypes and single seater cars) - water drop size often very visible and looking awkward (perhaps a reduced minimum droplet size in combination with water droplets physics skipping could be managed to avoid those large water droplets) - water running off objects (especially bridges, etc) often too visible, too large droplets, looking awkward - water drops in photo mode are currently reacting too visible (when using longer exposures, say 1/125th sec rain water droplets should be already VERY long "traces" in the capture but have currently too short a "trace" acting more like a 1/250th or even 1/500th sec exposure - just needs a little adjustment - water drops and their traces are still much "too thick" (too obvious) currently, particularly illuminated water drops / traces in front of headlights - water drops / traces in photo mode are currently not yet reacting properly to DOF (water drops close to the camera (well outside of the current aperture dictated DOF) are very distinctly visible but should be completely invisible as they are entirely out of focus (particularly at the typically long focal length of ~300 - 600mm used for trackside shots) - colorful rain spray does from time to time happen and seems to be originating from actually changing colors of light sources (headlights, brake lights, etc) - I observed the reflective lights on asphalt from brake lights become a different color as the brake lights themselves (like green) and water spray from the rear tires would then become green - I also saw red headlights occasionally All in all a really big improvement from the last builds (windscreen + wiper effects are fully and properly working again in triple screen mode).

Hi i have a liittle problem with one thing...on the wet tharmac i see photos with the reflection of the car in water but in my case my car is not reflected only the walls of the track but nothing about the car...how i fix it???

Someone has earlier commented that changing the CSP extra AA method from FXXA to something else (or OFF ?) helped them. I tried this with triple screens and unfortunately didn't find a cure. I guess we have to wait until Ilja finds a solution (he commented on this known issue either in this or another Patreon post).

found a lil bug, the rain stays still when the X-Bow wheel-arches move. The texture stays completely still. rain hits it, but the drops dont move with the wheel arches.

Is there any possibility that the next build will undo the red smoke when new smoke in particle fx is turned on? I like the new smoke but I also really like this build.

The red smoke is probably the tail lights glowing through the rain sprayclouds that have been spawning instead of the proper dust/smoke clouds on this latest version.

Yes, they should, and with SSLR they would also have longer speculars too. However, at the moment longer speculars don’t take dynamic shadows into account, I’ll work on that :)

Hi Ilja, thanks for the update. Report a few things in my install. Backfire is always on in track (Like force flames in replay) Always start any session with 50/100/50 % in rain, wetness & water. Just that for now. Thanks!

Do you see new smoke under street lights illumination? If so you have the same problem as me. New smoke isn't visible unless illuminated by street lights, other lighting at night, exhaust flame etc. It's really disappointing. I even went down the road of reinstalling Windows, still no luck.

Just checking - the rain works externally from the car in single player but doesn't seem to in multiplayer at the moment (still works inside the car though). Is this expected behavior or should external rain still work in multiplayer? Edit: It's literally just the rain on windshield effect working in MP, no external rain whether you outside of inside the car. Simply awesome work by the way - love it! :D
