silly goose

this show could have easily gone for two well paces seasons and i wish we had more time to savor the newer characters and second arc of the story. we have 3 episodes after this one left and we dont know much about mello or takada or even near. i have to wonder if that plays into the fact that a lot of fans drop off after L's death.

I was disappointed that L was killed off. He was such a unique, quirky, gifted character. It seems pointless that he was replaced by Near who appears to be so similar in all aspects. Unless something major happens in these last couple of episodes, I fail to see how the storyline benefits from this. I would have loved to see L and Light going head to head until the very end.

I think most of these rules are purely to satiate the otaku. You'll find that a lot in anime. Sometimes a great deal of additional details about characters and other things are provided that you really don't need to know. Sometimes these details are mundane, like this, maybe so people who bought physical death notes when the show came out can 'use them correctly'. Other times these details are more for fan-service, for example a lot of shows might reveal the body measurements of the characters, their sexual orientation, blood type, star signs, etc. for those that want to obsess over them. There's also a huge community of people who do fan fiction and fan art for their favourite shows, so I guess these additional details also help with consistency.
