Greetings adventurers!

There are very few things that frighten the pants off of me more than the ocean and its inhabitants. Deep below the waves all manner of terror resides. With their scaley bodies and sharp teeth and dead fishy eyes… It’s enough to make a man never want to venture onto a boat. That said, when I heard of a clan of hybridized creatures that fiercely guarded shipwrecks and made them their home, I was intrigued. I was even more intrigued when I heard that they were teeming with latent magics. They weren’t an easy group to befriend, but once I did, I was shocked at their generosity.

Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play for D&D and Pathfinder 2E. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.

Design notes from Matthew:
One of the most important things to remember when designing every magic item for us is to build in cool moments. Sometimes that’s hard when the item is a passive bonus or something of that nature, but sometimes it just comes very easy. This is one of those cases where it came extremely easy. What’s not to love about going full Street Sharks with an amulet? Like you can just imagine jumping off a pier and holding this thing up turning into a hybrid by the time you hit the water.

For the 5E version, this was a pretty straightforward take on a new version of wild shape. Essentially this operates the same way. I often tell people that are starting up with designing mechanics and items that there’s no need to reinvent the wheel. If you find a spell, class feature, or feat that gets you 90% of the way there and is part of the SRD, just go ahead and reuse it. Familiar mechanics with a new twist are just as valid as something completely new.

In Pathfinder 2E, this borrows a bit from Animal Shape, but mostly ended up being its own creation. The bite attack was a particularly tough nut to crack in how I wanted to word it and set it up. I ended up looking for inspiration in the Tengu race as their beak attack showed some promising similarities with what I was trying to accomplish. The other mechanics wrote themselves pretty well. This was a surprisingly straightforward dev process.

We hope you see that it can be a good thing to swim with the fishes. As we continue our journey this month, we’ll be delving into something spooky next week in anticipation of the upcoming spookiest day of the year. We hope you look forward to our frightful surprise. We promise it won’t bug you too much.

This is truly great! A shark hybrid makes me think of Chalkie from Cabin Boy, but he's completely different.. I love this idea.
