Greetings adventurers!

The divine and their rules and laws are all so boring to me. I mean, don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing terrible about a little holy drama when they get on their operatic antics, but you know at a base level the devotion is just something that I can’t reconcile. I thought very little of it when I was seated on a bench next to a downtrodden Paladin who rambled endlessly about what he had sacrificed to get where he was today. To me, he was just sitting there covered in a stenching muck and dripping claret. He eventually got up and walked away leaving this beaming shield where he sat. I called after him but he simply replied “I’m done!”... Well, at least I have a shield now!

Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play for D&D and Pathfinder 2E. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.

If that strikes your fancy, consider becoming a Patron

Design notes from Matthew:
This one started with a word. I’m not sure why, but I just enjoy the term apotheosis. It has a certainty to it and a definite air of grandeur that intrigued me so. I wanted to create something centered around this idea of a moment of protection/ascension. It’s pretty easy for me to pitch a shield to Fernando. I just say “Hey, want to make a shield?” and he will literally never say no. We started with that word and the idea of a shield that extended protection to others in their time of need.
My initial idea was that I would be making this a regular action to extend protection to those around, but I will say I get a little bored of just making everything an action to activate. I get the purpose of it, but I think there’s more interesting ideas to be found in stacking mechanics with something that you’ll already be doing from time to time, but not “all the time” if that makes sense. That’s where the idea of casting it with lay on hands came in.
Fernando’s illustration influenced the final stats of this when he included this beaming symbol on the top of it. I knew that I should include some mechanic element for that to make it feel cohesive. It seems very “paladin” as well to just constantly have a beaming light in front of them. Why would they ever consider hiding when you want evil to come to you to be smited?!... smote?! Whatever the word is.

I love putting together class specific things and exploring the paladin/champion was a great way for me to learn a little more about them since admittedly I haven’t played one myself. I’m hoping to do some more class specific items soon, but if you have any ideas for fun mechanics to play around in 5E or PF2E don’t hesitate to drop them in the comments.

We highly encourage you to join our Discord server where you’ll get access to exclusive channels that have sneak peeks, behind the scenes chatter, and more.
