Greetings adventurers!

On the outskirts of town the quiet of the countryside is occasionally dotted with the sound of explosions. You would think that would be more startling to the folk of this particular hamlet, but they tell me “Ah that’s just the ole powder merchant”. Intrigued by this individual, I had to make his acquaintance. It turns out he’s not just a simple powder merchant, but an inventor as well. I was a bit worried to take charge of such a volatile invention as this scabbard, but I will say I’m intrigued by it.  Just stay away from any campfires.

Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play for D&D and Pathfinder 2E. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.

Design notes from Matthew:
Oh man, I love janky inventions that just look dangerous when you look at them. Creating them is such an interesting exercise in balancing the silliness of it while providing something useful as well for the end user. My hope is that they hit this cool middle ground of giving an initial laugh, but then being insanely usable. That’s the kind of mark I want to hit with our items.
Something I really enjoy about magic items is that they can be beneficial themselves or you can use them to modify something else. In the case of a scabbard, I think the power of it truly can lie in what it does to the thing stored in it. I also enjoy that it can then be used on a wider array of items as well. Something that bothers me about making weapons at times is just how siloed they are. People have canonical weapons for their character and don’t often like to swap. Magical scabbards can give you more options.
I always wanted to make something that lets you sacrifice the item for a truly dire moment and this seemed like the perfect moment for it. Fernando had painted the fuse on this and I just knew it needed a self-destruct sequence. It fit too well.

The janky inventions are some of my favorites and something that I hope you enjoy as well. I love bringing in these different themes of mad inventors and folks that probably should have just not been around fire and explosives. I think that makes it all the more entertaining to use.

We highly encourage you to join our Discord server where you’ll get access to exclusive channels that have sneak peeks, behind the scenes chatter, and more.
