Greetings adventurers!

Far away in the mountains, an old and sagging log cabin rests in a lush valley. The wildlife was plentiful and the garden outside grew thick. Within, a gray haired old man went about his duties tending to the land around him. He had neighbors, spread across the valley, drawing life from the cool mountain stream that flowed through the hills here. They sought out a simple existence away from the worries of crowded market stalls and dreary cobblestone allies. Once per year the old man would take the horned staff from his mantle and climb to the mountain crag above to blow the great horn once again and renew the life of the valley.

Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.

Design notes from Matthew:
This one was actually a creation for my home game. There is an order of monks that blow a horn to call forth the rains once per year. They were founded by a man now long thought gone named Kikran Raincaller. These days, they still tend to the horn over the valley and I wanted to eventually give them a way to find the staff of Kikran Raincaller. This was that staff.
An artifact level item like this requires some special consideration. Certainly it should be powerful in combat which I definitely think this meets the criteria for, but it’s equally important for artifacts in my worlds to have the ability to alter the world in some way around them. They should fundamentally change something about how things operate. I think that’s where the power of an artifact truly comes in. The combat prowess is just icing on the cake.
I knew that I wanted this to be something that brought a blessing to the rain around and I knew from the start that it had to call forth rain, but finding a way to word that was actually a bit trickier than I imagined. I had to do a lot of wordsmithing to land on something that gave it an epic feel without rendering it a cure all for everything that could be wrong with an area. I think I nailed it in the end.
Illustration notes from Fernando:
This might be my new favorite illustration I’ve done for AB; I love everything about it, the twirled horn, the colors, the look of painted wood at the top as well as the beads simulating rain drops.
I looked at a couple of YouTube videos of people making war horns for this one.  Someone mentioned to us that D&D doesn’t have a lot of horn items, and Matthew already had this staff in his home game so it all came about fairly quickly.  I still think we need to do a straight up war horn but I’m also really happy we made this staff.

Any time we get to develop something powerful like an artifact level item, I get a bit giddy. It’s great to bring forth something that you could base an entire adventure around and certainly I know for a fact that I based an adventure around this one. It’s amazing to see it come to life in such detail with Fernando’s illustration and I couldn’t be more excited to put it in your hands.
