Cloak of Daggers (Patreon)
Content
Greetings adventurers!
In the backalleys of certain cities you can find markets that deal in goods you would never find in a more reputable vendor. Those are the places we like to visit from time to time if we’re looking for something for the less pious individuals that patronize our establishment. Well this one certainly didn’t disappoint. We thought someone had just hastily strapped some daggers for quick access onto a robe, but the merchant assured us it was much more. He was very right!
Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.

Design notes from Matthew:
Writing this one turned out to be quite the chore in the end. I rarely say that about magic items as I’m usually quite positive about the process, but for some reason I was having a hard time making this interesting. I hate giving basic bonuses like +1s and things of that nature. I like creating interesting mechanics that give options as well as potential for interesting interactions. This was one circumstance where I had a hard time getting it right.
One of my early iterations just gave higher damage to the blade swing at the bottom, but it didn’t really have much more to it. That didn’t really fill my desired role of making things interesting or creative. It just felt like a cloak with an extra style of attacks to it. I knew I had to give it something more interesting.
I ended up binding it to rogues because I thought the idea of an AoE sneak attack would be quite fascinating. Now obviously something that powerful has to face some tough balancing, so I went through a few different iterations to figure out how. I landed on making it cost a few attacks to get there and the set up makes it just hard enough to justify it.
Illustration notes from Fernando:
We’ve had the idea for this item in our ideas document for a while, it’s a really fun item but also one that can come off a bit too silly. I did a literal version of it kind of just for fun, kind of to get it out of my system; it was a cloak completely made of daggers, like a wearable iron throne. It was hilarious, it looked like a bad porcupine costume, and also like it would weigh as much as a car.
The final design was more subdued, I added some daggers to the headpiece in order to give it a bit of personality, in my mind it implies almost like a dagger-based religious headdress, same with the daggers dangling around the neck, and of course, the most important piece of the puzzle are the kunai lining the bottom of the cloak.
We just got our first snow of the season in my area and that means we’ll definitely be getting ready to produce some more winter items. We have a few more other interesting ones coming, but expect us to squeeze in some snowy, icy, chilly ones in short order. I love creating stuff for the season!
We highly encourage you to join our Discord server where you’ll get access to exclusive channels that have sneak peeks, behind the scenes chatter, and more.
