Greetings adventurers!

Fungus scares me. Perhaps that’s an odd way to start a conversation, so let me revise. Fungus absolutely terrifies me. There are few things in this world as tenacious, efficient, and downright deadly as fungal growths. Some have a type of intelligence to them with long ranging communication methods and so on. It’s downright ghastly. I suppose it’s only fitting that one day after death we return to feeding the insects and fungus. I’m not sure what someone was thinking when they crafted this gauntlet, but I can only hope it gets out of my shop sooner rather than later.

Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play for D&D and Pathfinder 2E. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.

If that strikes your fancy, consider becoming a Patron

Design notes from Matthew:

Fungus is weird, dude. Yeah look, I know that’s kind of a blanket statement, but the more you read about it, the more you find out how weird it actually is. Go ahead, I give you permission to step away from this for a bit to just go read about mycelial networks. Obviously some things have already covered this, like The Last of Us, but I had an idea for an interesting way to take it. I like the idea of returning limited life to something with fungus, but I didn’t want to make this a zombie summoning machine or something. That’s when the “speak with dead/talking corpse idea” came about.

For the 5E version, I wanted to give this some boosts to grappling, but grappling is a contested check so really the benefits are somewhat smaller than they otherwise could be. I was worried that with too much of a bonus on a contested check, you’d be running into situations regularly where a poor roll streak would punish a user too much or reward a creature too much.  Ultimately I settled on definite damage, but a smaller bonus.

In Pathfinder 2E grappling works quite differently where you’re just rolling to beat a set DC. That makes it a bit more interesting to want to apply bonuses, but it also means I have to be a bit more careful with damage. That’s why I went with the additional basic save to resist that damage so that this thing wasn’t just cranking out dps every round if a creature has trouble escaping.

This has been an amazing month that is ending up rather plant themed and I can’t say I’m sad about it. Sometimes exploring a theme for a bit is a really interesting way to force yourself into having different ideas. After the last item of the month, we’ll be moving on to non-plant themed items, but this theme has grown on me. Sorry, not sorry for the pun.

We highly encourage you to join our Discord server where you’ll get access to exclusive channels that have sneak peeks, behind the scenes chatter, and more.
