Jay's March 2024 Update (Patreon)
Content
Well hello everyone!
I was out on my bike yesterday and thought I'll give you a quick update on what's been going on with my life. There's also some bits I've forgotten to mention in the video, so here we are:
We've settled in well after the big move, and although I'm still surrounded by some buff boxes here and there, both Julia and I are back in the saddle working on projects.
I'm still very busy with Heart of Mercy, the feature length movie project I'm working on, starring none other than Jonathan Roumie of The Chosen. It's going well, but as you can imagine, working with Unreal Engine brings different challenges every day.
In addition, I'm still in the process of learning iClone and how to make good character animations with it, but bit by bit and very slowly the scary "newness" of the programme turns into something more familiar and friendly, including how to work in Character Creator. It's actually so much more than a character creation app, so the name is bit misleading. It's a major hub for content import, including figures and clothing from Daz Studio.
On this note, did you hear Mike Kelley is working on a script that imports all pertinent maps for clothing items from Daz into iClone 8? It's true, check out his latest video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTD-c8rfFIg
I've also had several personal sessions with potential new clients and current supporters over the last few weeks, which was very enjoyable.
And finally there's the launch of the Daz Masterclass on YouTube. In case you haven't heard, Daz wanted to release the whole series on YouTube for free, including the previously locked parts 2 and 3. I've offered to schedule the episodes on their channel, which is a bit of work in itself (thumbnails, descriptions, scheduling, occasional premieres with live chat, making sure the ending points to the next episode). The response has been great, and I'm making sure two episodes per week go out Tuesdays and Fridays.
All of this has kept me pretty busy and took time away from making videos for my own channel, but of course I haven't forgotten about that. I'm planning on finishing the MD to Daz series this week with a video about adding textures (the ones I've made on New Year's Eve), saving the garment and then moving the whole project into Unreal Engine. I can't remember if I've mentioned full body morphs in that series or not, but if I haven't, that's another part I'll record.
Once that's edited, I'm planning on making more disjointed quick tips around the more curious aspects of Unreal Engine and iClone as "memory helpers" for myself and anyone else who needs them. I keep discovering new things all the time, and without proper notes and explanations, my future self would certainly forget.
That's it for my spontaneous mid-week update. Have a great week and I hope I'll see you next Saturday for a live stream from 5pm EST on The YouTubes! 👋
