In this episode I'll talk about how to use point lights in Iray, and how  to turn them into a variety of light sources. I'll also explain why a  HDRI does not reach an interior set and why it might be less useful, and  I'll describe how to turn existing geometry in your scene into light  sources.

For Angelee - I hope it's useful 😄

That was very useful, thank you! I had played with point lights before but didn't know about changing the geometry, and hadn't thought about a backlight even though I usually create one in postwork. I'm excited to dig in now and try some lighting!

Hey Jay, new subscriber. Great video! I just have a quick question that I am sure is a PEBKAC issue. When I change the light geometry of a point light, it still maintains the look of the point light and does not change to say the disc or the rectangle as it does in your video. Is there something I need to enable or an extension perhaps that I need to install?

Xor! Thank you so much for signing up, welcome! I’ve not had that particular issue before, but have had similar trouble with Iray a while ago. Sometimes it doesn’t accurately reflect changes you make. Try disabling the Iray viewport, change the light geometry, then switch back to Iray and see if that does the trick. If that doesn’t work, try installing the beta version of DAZ Studio: https://daz3d.com/daz-studio-beta It installs side by side to the release, it usually has a newer version of the Iray engine and often some bug fixes. It’s a good option to try the same thing with a separate version. Let me know if it works.
