Motion Matching with a Daz Character π (Patreon)

Hello everyone!
Yesterday EPIC have released an interesting sample project featuring Motion Matching. That's a newfangled AI technology that blends a huge amount of small animations together for infinite variety on the fly. It essentially tries to predict where the player directs the character next and pre-empts the movements. I have no idea how this works, but it means that retargeting 500+ animations is impractical.
This is where Live Retargeting comes in. I was able to replace the default mannequin in the project with a Genesis 9 character and threw in some Chaos Cloth for fun. Here are the results, which I find absolutely mind-blowing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Te5WPff9gmw (links to the assets I've used, and the sample project are in the description of that video).
Interestingly the cloth animation requires so much GPU power that my RTX 3090 wasn't able to give me anything above 20fps π Thankfully they had an option to play the project at half the speed, which is how I got a more fluid frame rate in the video. I'm looking forward to the 5090 cards already...
In other news, I've recorded a second take on how to use Chaos Cloth in Unreal Engine, which is going to allow us poke-free follower clothing with optional cloth dynamics, much like we have it in Daz Studio. I'll post that for supporters later today, with a tentative release schedule for later this month.
Have a fantastic summer everyone, stay safe and Happy Rendering π€
