Greetings everyone!

Today I have an early access video for you in which I explain how you can separate objects from an Unreal Engine asset with a quick round trip into Blender. This is sometimes necessary when multiple things are stuck together (like a table with coffee cups stuck on top), and you want to move them independently, or if you need to make architectural changes that the asset was not designed to allow. A little Blender knowledge is necessary, but not much and I'll gently guide you through the hole process. Enjoy!

In other news, I've been investigating how to convert Daz hair into UE Groom hair. I had no idea that this was even possible, nor how good it can (potentially) look, without having to re-invent the wheel or setting up those nasty collision shapes. Real time hair (like cloth) is usually a total nightmare to implement, with too many settings to tweak and seriously wonky tools, but the UE Groom system makes this relatively painless. Check out my workflow notes here: https://www.versluis.com/2024/04/quick-notes-on-turning-daz-hair-into-groom-hair-for-unreal-engine/

In health-related news, I've finally got my colonoscopy scheduled! This was something I've been meaning to do for several years, and it's quite shocking to see that my last one was 5 years ago. That's the trap with cancer screenings: "Oh I feel fine, life is good and I'm doing great" and next thing you know you're on a chemo drip with 6 months to live, just because you were too busy for a check-up. Granted we had COVID and the on-again-off-again move keeping us busy for several years, but I could have made a bigger effort.

It's all good though, I've seen my colon surgeon Dr. Szomstein a couple of weeks ago, he was thrilled to see me again and said that only two days earlier, he held my book in his hands and wondered what became of me. How nice is that?

We've scheduled the procedure for Monday morning at 7am and I'll get results on the same day. Usually when colon cancer grows, it does so as a result of small polyps. When left untreated, those can turn into nasty tumours. However, when detected early they just get snipped off and that's the end of it, so a colonoscopy is not just a screening, it's also an immediate early treatment.

I'll let you know how it pans out. I hope this week has been treating you well, as it has treated me. Take care and stay creative 👋
