At cons I usually work with 2-3 lights. A main light front left and a back light in each corner behind the cosplayer. Sometime you need to re-position and re-test lights especially when you are changing scale, nothing more true when Nerdcore Creation stepped on set in his amazing Reinhardt.  I had to move the back lights wider apart and higher so the next thing I needed to do was test what they were doing. From my JINBEI TR-611 TTL Receiver I can turn the lights on and off individually and I usually take shots of one at a time to see what each is doing. So this was the very first frame testing the back left light on its own. Dave had looked down to check something which gave a beautiful somber pose. If the head was at a different angle I doubt it would have worked as well.

The colour in the shot was distracting from the pose and I knew instantly that I would make it Black and White and the graphic designer in me wanted to had the typographical overlay adding back in the orange from the logo.

I love this image but it was a result of testing lights and the pose at the time, some images aren't planned some just happen through circumstances, but I could have easily written the shot off as being just one of the many test ones I take.

This is beautiful, I had to set the greyscale version as my phone wallpaper so I could see it more often. It's very reminiscent of a soldier morning lost comrades
