[Edit 11.12] Dear Patrons, here's a breakdown of the new gameplay elements in v005:

Tourists:

While the tour bus is also the foundation for an upcoming mission, as of now, its itinerary is fixed and looped but that will probably change in the future. One of the ideas behind it is that it could serve as an instrument to let the player discover points of interest should he/she decide to follow it - but not too close since it will call for backup if the player is detected driving closely behind it for more than 10 seconds or should the tourists get scared once they're outside.

Tourists originate from the "final destination", that's where everybody went toward, to survive. The bus is a self-driving automated vehicle - hence the laser detectors scanning what's ahead.

Technically, it's been quite a challenge to program and animate the tourist's behavior. Especially since Unity3D does not enable navigation/pathfinding on moving objects. Instead of using physics to animate them (just like I did with the goons), I've opted for canned animations which is a much more performance-friendly approach. I'll probably be switching to this system for all NPCs in the game, also because it's more reliable: using physics-driven movements, the goons get all deformed and weird over time, as you have probably seen.

Windshield wipers:

This is a feature I've had in mind for a long time. It's been super difficult to get it to look half-decent, so please do let me know how you feel about the whole thing. Definitely a new gameplay feature where your vision will get blurred and distorted when a vehicle drives in front of you.

Other changes:

As you will see, I've made some changes to the way the headlights behave - now, it should be less blinding as the illuminated fog  is kept at ground level.

I've also made some changes to the sound effects and engine sound, which are more muffled now.

In the pause menu, there's a day/night speed slider. It's mainly for testing purposes but you can use it to set the lighting.

Lastly, while in the start menu, you can press "r" and additional buttons will become visible - you can use those to skip/reverse your progress.

Enjoy this release and as always, any feedback from your side is super useful, so do share your thoughts in the comment section below!
