Dr. M was an experiment on the prison/lab planet (that I haven't named yet) but of course, he became way too powerful for the scientists who were dumb enough to put stuff into a cobra that they probably shouldn't have.

He turned into a naga, grew to a massive size, and grew in hunger and intelligence. 

After eating the scientists, he took over the lab for himself. He does many experiments as well, and when he grows tired of his subjects, provided they're still living and not poisonous themselves, he eats them as well.  

None of them are quite sure what he's looking for, though he is a bit mad, with his madness comes his genius. 

He keeps several of the animals as personal slaves, matters of keeping the base running, clean, other duties, etc. They are given slightly better treatment then the others, in which they are not experimented on (often) and given occasionally better food then most of the creatures there, but they are all utterly terrified of them because they have seen what he has subjected to those who have attempted to escape and failed.
