This is the update for an Impractical Guide to the Force, chapter 10, that I've just written today.

Obviously the guest star of the Dread Empire of Praes for this chapter is Dread Empress Malicia, Tyrant of the Tower, and one of the best manipulators to have ever lived...now let's see what she can do in the body of Padme while the Jedi and Palpatine have more or less neglected her for ten years...

Now that's great! Clever Dune reference there. And the best part is that Malicia has a pretty easy cover story to explain the personality change: she saw the Republic and Jedi Order do nothing (beyond sending Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan) while the Trade Federation invaded and terrorized her planet. "A rather eye-opening experience, wouldn't you say?"

Well, our Padme has pretty much changed Anakin's fate.

Indeed, indeed. But then you have to admit the Jedi handed the stick to be beaten with in canon. It would have been child's play for a small detachment of Jedi to destroy Jabba's private empire on Tatooine and freed the slaves, no matter how many repercussions it would have created with the Hutt Cartels in the long-term. That the idea wasn't even properly debated shows there is something really wrong with the Order...

Thanks, and yes, I thought the Dune reference was pretty much a requirement given the time of the year (grin)...
