And here is chapter 85 of The odds were never in my favour, which will be updated in August.

That means the very spectacular chapter 76 will be for September, of course (evil grin).

Enjoy!

This was a great chapter but it only teases me for the upcoming Chapter 86 you mentioned! Curse you for teasing us like that:) So Alexandra got a power boost because the Light fucked up AGAIN, which is interesting. Though it looks like Alex doesn't realise HOW much of a power boost going from the chapter. Neville was terrified of her aura, but Alex didn't see anything really weird about what she was doing and only commented on The Dark Queen walking around with a flared aura. Though the fact she is stronger than Alex even with that power boost is kind of scary. The magical ritual...interesting, but we don't know what's going on there yet but releasing these seals is going to be interesting. I suppose it could be releasing people that the Light has sealed away, but it doesn't feel big enough for the King. The Light does seem kind of horrible nieve compared to the Dark Champions, which is going to be a problem. Ra, for all his arrogance, seems a tad afraid of his brother. It would have been nice to see what Alex was doing in her drams, other than a throwaway line about her going around killing and fighting people but I suppose you don't want to get caught up in there. Still, a great chapter and I look forward to more.

Whoa, you're such a tease. The pressure is comming to a boiling point and it is just the first amongst seven tasks. Did I understood that correctly: the next chapter will not be available on Patreon before September? On another subject, I can't wait to see what new magic you will present us in the upcoming first task, on Alexandra’s part and others. As always thank you so much for writting and sharing

Nicholas

Thanks for the chapter, telling us you have 86 done but won't share it for a month is evil, but the best kind of evil. I have one massive question after reading this chapter. What happens if Ra decides to ignore the political consequences and flip the board? He could kill everyone bound into the ritual or level the Colosseum. He says attacking the Colosseum would be catastrophic but what does that mean? A political disaster for the Light or something more significant, like sinking most of Italy into the Mediterranean Sea? Of course that could bring him and Osiris into direct conflict and we don't know how bad it is when those two go all out. Thanks for all your hard work!

Then we take bets on how many champions will die in the first task and how?

I kinda like de Conde. He sounds... reasonable, fairly sane and doesn't seem to be indulging in a serious case of Lawful Stupid. I hope he will get more development and won't be serving as a light snack for Fenrir anytime soon.

Antony444

That's your privilege if you want to do it...but I am not going to say anything before the update.

Antony444

Yes, he is...and as you mentioned, it is conditional in not serving as snack for Fenrir. That tends to ruin everyone's day.

Antony444

No, the chapter will be the September update, the chapter on patreon may arrive sooner than that, though I have no current schedule date. As for new magic...Alexandra is going to be careful in the type of spells she use in the First Task. One must keep several aces in reserve, after all...

Antony444

It's not just for the sake of evil (grin) , it's also because since it was huge, it's the last chapter to be fully written (and it took me a while to do it). Since I'm busy writing on the Weaver Option right now, there won't be any chapter ready after that for the moment...

I have a question (one that I asked in an earlier thread but I don’t think you noticed sorry if you did and didn’t want to answer) but how is magical Britain so unsuccessful compared to non magical Britain? Muggle Britain conquered 1/4 of the world and was a major player in both world wars and while it may not be at its height Britain is at least a functional state that is wealthy (at least compared to the rest of the world). But magical Britain is clearly very inefficient, corrupt, in debt, money that leaves it rarely comes back so there is clearly a bad economy, intolerant, behaves more like a 3rd world dictatorship and is generally as backwards as you could imagine. So what is the in universe explanation for this difference?

Nicholas

I'm not Antony but I suspect there are three in universe explanations which combine to explain everything you are seeing. First, the differences aren't as big as you think. If you take a look at how Lyra has been treated the French Ministry doesn't look like it pays any more attention to the Rule of Law then the British Ministry. Add that Fleur (the murderous light fanatic and member of the proscribed terrorist organization the Army of Light) is the daughter of the head of the French Ministry I don't know that France is any better the England. Across the Continent Lyudmila is the daughter of the Tsar of Russia (has anyone checked him for mind altering spells lately). All in all it doesn't look to me like the rest of Europe is much better then England. Second, the statute of secrecy went into effect in the 17th century, before English power really took off. It is probable that Magical England never held the position of power that Muggle England did. Third, Dumbledore has come close to being absolute ruler of England for the last 50 years. The Dark says his ideas don't work. If they are telling the truth about that he has had 50 years to mess up whatever was going well in England, and Voldemort didn't help things at all. I think those three are more then adequate to explain what you are seeing.

Well, well, well ... I believe I should add my few cents to the comments about this great chapter. I mean it is not every day that an Archmage as prestigious as Ra figures out just how screwed he and the Light is in the span of what? ... Less than five minutes between figuring out, that Osiris screws him using Light and Dark and most importantly Fate and Osiris showing himself and thus declaring "Hey Brother, if you try something funny I'll be there to stop you immediately." The Music of the Thirteen Seals activating Ritual after Ritual will be fun to watch. I am guessing that the last Ritual is meant to either free Fate or breaking Ra's hold over it as well as immediately restarting the old Light vs. Dark war that "petered out" with the Battle of Camlann. And while it may seem risky to Osiris' plans I'm rather sure it is a very calculated risk. With his experience Osiris should know how people in general react and all he needs to do then is plan accordingly and throw Fate a bone in form of its own freedom. Fate will then back over backwards to make it happen just to get rid of its chains. I estimate that three rituals get accidentally triggered by Longbottom. And the Last one will be activated by Alexandra winning this tournament. This brings us to the Alliance Proposals which are getting thrown around this chapter. It looks as if she has options, but the options that have her continued survival on the table are rather rare. The Chaos option would just piss off everyone except Chaos and lead to a rather painful demise. The Option of entering an alliance withcertain Light Champions is fraught with problems. these Problems include: - Ra wanting her dead - Dumbledore wanting her dead - All of the Light Organizations wanting her dead - Alexandra not wanting to anger Osiris - Alexandra's own connections with Members of the Exchequer - Agents of the Exchequer running interference (for example both Sforzas, Malatesti, her own mother and the higher ups) Hell at this point I could see Osiris himself having a tiny, little chat with Alexandra. Now to the stuff that I expect will happen. - De Conde, Malatesti, Romanov and Potter enter the Arena and a titanic fight breaks out. everyone is awed and outed as Champions of Magic. In the End Romanov survives as do all the other contestants, some more barely than others .... - Hooper and Warrington having really bad days. Hooper survives heavilly wounded and nobody will miss Warrington. - Innocence and Life coming out on top over a pathetic Warrington and a less pathetic Durmstrang student. Now, just for fun, that we won't see: - Alexandra using a gigantic snake of ice as a surfboard during the fist task "Seriously, what are they putting in these northern witches breakfast?" - Romeo Malatesti during the Exchequer debriefing after the first task - Osiris and Voldemort having a blast over the look of Ra's and Dumbledore's faces when Alexandra transforms into a Hydra during the first task - Osiris and Alexandra exchanging gardening tricks at a certain flower field in magical venice while Ra is just a few meters away banging his Hands against a forcefield that prevents him from coming closer to said flowers in an effort to prevent this fields destruction
