Hello everyone,

I was really busy this week working on The odds were never in my favour, but a lot of it was background research and plot questioning...sooo, not posting it there...yet.

On the other hand, I shifted since yesterday on several things I need to to for the next arc of the Weaver Option. These things include the writing of the Order of Battle for several battles which promise to equal if not depass Commorragh.

As such I present you today the provisional Order of Battle of the defenders of Cadia on 310M35, after more than twelve years of build-up, recall of Shock Troopers, and some contributions of Saint Weaver.

Keep in mind after reading that...the Cadians and their gallant allies are going to be significantly outnumbered when the Gates of Hell open.

Otherwise, I can confirm I will begin writing Black Crusade 10-1 The Last Dawn (provisional title) by the 10th of April at the latest. Ovation Interlude should (let's pray the God-Emperor it is a good should) be properly betaed by then, and I will have finished preparing for the glory of the Living Saint of Escalation.

Bests,

Mordred

Well having read through that magnificent order of battle and the amount of forces involved there is one thing I can say for sure... this is going to be a glorious mess of a black crusade. I'm sincerely look forward to it :)

Aaron Kay

That is a lot of troops. To be bad out numbered means this battle will be huge. Can’t wait

Cadia must not fall, and these number of loyal sons of Cadia I am sure will do their damndest to see their home through. Also why do I feel that the Penal world is going to be the main point of attack for the slave gathering forces since they need big amounts of people for the ritual

Silver Wolf

No, Nyx or Fay regiments? I guess despite their recent accomplishments they're not experienced enough to entrust the duty of guarding the Eye of Terror. How has Taylor's efforts with the Sister of Silence been going? We haven't heard anything about that since the Captain-General told her to start gathering them and while Taylor doesn't know that a huge Chaos fleet is heading her way (probably) they sure would be useful.

Antony444

Oh you have no idea. To begin with, as I'm sure I strongly implied last Interlude, all the Volscani population has been 'volunteered' for conscription...and when I mean, everyone, it's really everyone...

Antony444

Oh you can bet they will do their best...or their worse (depends on the perspective, of course). As for the Penal World, precautions have been taken.

Antony444

I'm trying to make a realistic Imperium and Ministorum. As such, for the officers in charge of the logistics to consider sending regiments to the Eye half-way across the galaxy, it has to be worth the expense. You will notice that really, really few Guard regiments are from Ultima Segmentum.

Given that Chaos is as backstab happy as two skavens with one klondike bar between them. How much jockeying will Abbadon have to deal with on the march to Cadia before the first shot against the Imperium? Also, with Lorgar's breakaway Crusade out and about, how much screaming will the High Lords and not to mention Abbadon be emanating from their thrones?

Trevayne

Curiosity, what is the average size of a regiment? I know they will differ wildly, but is 20,000 a reasonable guess? It certainly looks like a bleep-ton of troops, but is it in the high hundreds of millions or into the billions?

ScreamingMidgit

No more than usual for Abaddon. He keeps them dealt with through force anyway, and he doesn't have any Malal-aligned forces in his army yet.

Forgottenone

Chaos has it cut out for them if they want to engage the gate rather than sending out a token force. That said with all the increased forces around the Cadia sector if Chaos stays put and engages the gate as they did in the 13 Black Crusade...I just honestly see them getting swarmed. That said I do feel that Abaddon going to join in on attacking IOM just not with the chaos primarch.

Confused

Well now this will be a fight to remember since for once the Imperium has had time to prepare for this attack and it's high command will be filled with competent officers. So Chaos is in for a tough fight, but at the same time Chaos forces know this and will have tricks up there sleeve.

Anonymous

Competent officers? Like Admiral Vandire, recently transferred from Sol? :)

Antony444

That differs a lot. A lot of Cadian regiments are in the 10 000-15000 range if they include a large contingent of infantry (plus mechanised transports). But their armoured regiments tend to be smaller, in the 4000-5000 range (though like a lot of things, it vary a lot). The Valhallan and the soldiers of Vigilus, on the contrary, have enormous regiments which are more armies than regimental units...

Antony444

Let it be painfully clear: if you want to send a token force, you don't send it through Cadia right now. It's going to be shredded faster than you can say it.

Antony444

Prepare for this attack, yes. All filled with competent officers...it's a bit on the optimistic side. Cadian officers in general have had a good kick where it hurt with the Fall of Commorragh pushing the cults on the open and eliminating the incapable. The same apply for the Battlefleets of around the Eye of Terror. But there are large armies which haven't the legacy of going toe-to-toe with Traitor Astartes and Daemons. And this war is going to be especially brutal.

Is weaver building new knights and titans? It takes two years to build a destroyer, how long does it take build a knight, and titan?.

Antony444

Mhh...Taylor didn't build new Titans. A lot of resources went however on the repairs for Legio Defensor, in order to have a small percentage of it ready in time for Operation Stalingrad.

Gabriel Meadow

An impressive order of battle. Yet for them to be significantly outnumbered... you have to wonder how large a single Chaos warband can be. Because even accounting for Volscani, conscripted humans from the Eye, and daemonic reinforcements, the numbers still don't feel like they match up.

Anonymous

That is a lot of space wolves.

Antony444

Thanks! Don't forget that in numbers, Chaos has its favourite meat-fodder in the form of cultists, beastmen, mutants...and of course daemons.

Aconitum

Can't wait for the next chapter ^^ hopefully it surpasses all previous ones in the word number!

Is Taylor aware of Leet and Borek's discovery? Because as I understood, 8 years have passed between their "incident" and the beginning of the Black Crusade?

Antony444

No, she isn't. The communications have been for some reason...erratic and vague, this last decade.

Antony444

I have begun making the structure of the chapter, and I am (somewhat/maybe/hesitantly) confident it won't beat the length record to date. It is not going to be a small chapter, obviously, but it shouldn't be too large. I hope for 40k, but this is a very hypothetical number, since I've not seriously begun the writing phase.

IAmTheGuardsman

So when will the background research for the next “odds” chapter be done? What are you researching? Why are you researching? And when will the chapter be? So many questions.

Antony444

It is done, the posting of the Dance is not Over should have been a clue in that direction. As for what I was reasearching...gladiators. And gladiatoral spectacles, if I am to be accurate. Next chapter (which has no gladiators) is going to be posted very soon, don't worry.

Gabriel Meadow

I forgot to ask. Has Cawl made any progress on Project: Primarch Resurrection, or does he have to deal with the very unpleasant (wonderful to everyone else) and probably foreign taste of failure?
