Uncertain about the accuracy of the title, in the end. Is it a teaser if it's 9800 words-long, or is it a minor chapter in its own right.

Oh well, in doubt...

As promised, this is the first part of Ovation Interlude, titled Monsters and Nightmares.

Enjoy!

Only you Antony ... Only you can call nearly 10k words as a "Teaser".

If you can respond the question, are you going to use the information of the novel Severed for our favourite nemesor?

Anonymous

“Maybe he should try paying the competent members the the guard” ha! Thanks for the chuckles!

Anonymous

I always debate with myself whether or not to read these teasers.... I don't know why I bother. I always end up reading them anyway!

Anonymous

as always thx for the words

So the question arises... just how many bounties will Taylor claim? ;)

blackshadow111

Man, they're buying up people in the Militarum to put the screws on Taylor in Stalingrad and/or the Black Crusade. He's going for a Xeno AND Malleus Heresy. At the same time. I'd say it was nice knowing the Vandires, but it wasn't.

Guilherme Bezerra

I'm left wondering how Malicia sent her message ? I mean all the other chapter prologues are story-consistent, even the exchange between the emperor and Tzeentch can be assumed to have taken place in the warp, but I don't see how taylor is gonna receive that "letter" ? Dreams maybe ? And I gotta all my wishes fullfilled with Brukk Brukk showing up together with Obyron!

Aconitum

I really wonder if the Vandires have a checklist? As usual, he can have one more stupid idea after another

Antony444

I have read it, but I don't think I will use it (characters and scenario), no.

Antony444

I have similar problems with good stories, chocolate cakes, and many other things I love.

Antony444

First, you assume you have seen every bounty I will publish in this chapter...which isn't the case. People wanted a while ago to know more about the members of the top 100 wanted by the Imperium, and you will have your wish...

Antony444

More to put the screws on Oberstein. Most of the assets of Stalingrad which are supervised in the Sol System are either done by the Fabricator-General (Mechanicus assets) or Oberstein's direct staff (where Vandire has no influence to speak of).

Antony444

Vandire has many, many assistants for the checklists. Whether he listens to them or not is extremely debatable at the best of times.

The fact that there is even a hulk of the Tsunami says to me that the fight against the Ctan and the Necron boarding parties was shockingly fast and brutal. While energy generation was limited by the null zone and battle damage the only reason I can see for the imperial forces not to save all their data into a buoy and then detonating the magazines is that by the time they were certain they lost there was no centralized command with the codes for the exterminatus weapons still alive and the Astares were too busy to find an alternate solution.

Forgottenone

Honestly, I think that the officers in charge were about to get away when the C'tan were unleashed. We do know that two of the C'tan fragments got nearly destroyed and let's be honest the swarm one could overrun defenses positions quickly, while the dragon turns off every computer. The fact that there a hulk points out several flaws of these Necrons in command. One arrogant and racial superiority running high. Two they no longer being careful, this is also seen when they carelessly toss necron armies to the Orks and not notice. Three is just from my point of view, but it does not look like they are adapting to the new conditions or really using any long-term thinking. Really calling a race a vermin when you had to bust out C'tan to get the job done means they crossed the threshold of the puny weaklings.

Jeremy

I could be wrong but it looks like Taylor is on her way to getting another chapter and resurrecting the legacy of the lost legion

Anonymous

Cant wait to see what the Tsunami was like in its prime and what type of Chapter crewed it. After all with a name like that id assume overwhelming force to be a core aspect of their legion. Also cant wait for the Custodes to walk into the high council and say "Yay that edict saying she has a cap on Astartes chapters? Were rescinding it, shes getting another one and a Gloriana to house them on."

Forgottenone

I really cannot wait to see how badly did the Necrons fail in the clean-up of the 2nd Legion. I mean reducing everything to dust after stealing all their data does not seem unreasonable or letting their scarabs eat everything should be in the SOP of something important like the Throne of Oblivion. I wonder when the 2nd Legion attacked was it the first time the Necron in command had to deal with the virus running rampant throughout their forces?

Antony444

Well there are reasons not to at the moment. Whether they're still valid after Operation Stalingrad ends...

Antony444

Overwelming space force, yes. As for the Custodes...well, it would be definitely funny, if only to see Vandire go ballistic (again).

Boris Michenski

Well, here we go again into greatness! Malicia's mail make you wonder and is full of dark and scary omens... But comparing parahumans to Primarchs? It's somewhat presemptiuos, for one Primarchs were only 20. So Scavens are pushing Lorgar to go faster into Black Crusade rather than taking his time to fight them... it's an all out. But I'm somewhat confused about "or try a decisive gambit to destroy Anarchy and put back the genies back into the bottle" how getting his hands on Noctilith and creating Great Rift thousands years sooner gonna hurt Malal? Either way, happy to see Word Bearers are still the exemple of friendship, brotherhood and mutual understanding and confidence. And I do wonder how many prises would be payed once it's over. Happy to see Necron's Don Quichot, hope he ends up with an understanding with Nepherten. New/Old Gloriana? Always usefull, but it seems there would be no genetic legacy of Second reborn. Or... So everyone is preparing for a great showdown around Cadian's Gate, but noone on Impeial side expect Lorgar to play a teleportation act. Does his fleet ever need to leave the Eye for that? I suppose it does. Thank you again for your work!

Antony444

It's not really that they failed. It's more that once the 'primitives' were slaughtered, they promptly returned to their base. After all, these upstart primates are really no threat to the Szarekhan Dynasty and can't possibly muster a second force equally as powerful as the one we've just destroyed, right? Right?

Qvantum

Thank you for this teaser. As always I'm hungry for more :)

Dragon needs a ship, what are your thoughts on the Speranza?

Gabriel Meadow

Vandire will sound so unreasonably smug when he talks to the Fabricator-General and Lord High Admiral afterward. Continually digging his grave.

Gabriel Meadow

This was a great teaser. I don't think anyone's yet observed the other side effects of Vandire's influence spending spree - the massive vaunted economies of their Solar Sectors are running downhill. I mean, Tithes and Crusades talked about the growing unrest and debt, but if the broader well is running dry at the same time...

The Venenum assassin reminds my a bit of Hassan Serenity from Fate, I hope the assassination gang runs into Taylor or their targets. As for the Gloriana, Tsunami may refer to naval warfare, which would be really neat. Each primarch had a niche, and while all were exceptional admirals in their own rights, a legion specializing in shipbuilding/tactics and maybe void exploration would be awesome. I hope we get to learn more about the second, because as far as I care this is all canon and uncharted territory. Also, I just finished reading The Last Angel by Proximal Flame on spacebattles, and it has given me a new appreciation for what an AI run ship is capable of. If dragon ever builds a dedicated warship without all the baroque buttresses, life support, and grandiose vaulted halls, then that would be a vessel to be feared. Likely more by the mechanicum than by her enemies...

Antony444

You're welcome. Next update should come...well we see. Maybe next Sunday or Monday?

Antony444

Demands too much resources, and no one knows it exists in the first place for now. For the present, Dragon will use the Falchion-class Battleship.

Antony444

It's not exactly likely. This Execution Force is a blunt instrument which will be thrown into the face of the enemies coming at Cadia.

Anonymous

You just had to open the "Malicia" box. Seriously hope your ready for pages of speculation back on AltHistory.

Antony444

What, you think this is the only instance you will hear of the sorceress in this Interlude? Mwahaha!

Regan

Yet again the Mechanus is gonna love our lady Taylor. A Gloriana is BIG... considering how each is basically a prime example of different crusade era tech. Looking forward to more!

Anonymous

Je vois bien l'expedition sur le gloriana tombé sur le primarque de la 2eme légion au coin d'un couloir. Par contre le bordel administratif pour faire réapparaitre une légion qui à été effacé des archives ca va étre difficile.

Anonymous

After reading this I'm reasonably certain even the Three-Who-Were-Once-Four-And-Are-Soon-To-Be-Four-Again would acknowledge Erebus as overly smug and worthy of annihilation. He's just too darn smug.

Antony444

They sure aren't going to dig him out of trouble if his arrogance leads him to disaster...
