Now that I have ran over the hills a trail of 18.8 kilometres (because covid isn't the end of things, and Nurgle musn't be able to win), watched Julien Alaphilippe won the World Championship of Cycling, I'm in a good mood.

So you can have your weekly teaser of 6500 words. These are the last three POVs which are unfolding at Pavia, as you will quickly realise.

Courage and Honour!

Yey. Teaser. Comments to follow.

Boris Michenski

Well, everyone must have a hobby, and being a gigantic mecha somehow limit your options. Pierre's love for hats is far from worst possibility. As for the rest; "Stranger, tell the Spartans that we behaved as they would wish us to, and are buried here" - it's a worthy epipaph for Constantine.

Jeremy

After reading the the teaser I am not sure what I am looking forward to more. The fate of the newly founded Exorcist chapter or what I can only is the beginning of a massive bug hunt ending with Paul and Pierre vs. a genestealer cult.

Antony444

There are no genestealer cults on Indiga, that much I can very well relieve. Not every psychic insect or creature in this galaxy was created by the Tyranids, quite the contrary. The Tyranids have a 100% success rate in creating lethal fauna and flora, though.

Antony444

Yes, you don't want to know the worst possibility...glad you liked the teaser!

Jeremy

It was more a guess based on Tyranids I think get referenced with the Silent King Interlude and generally Genestealers roaming ahead of Hive Fleets.

Antony444

Of course, but while some scouts have already find their way (like at Catachan) the Genestealers have yet to be encountered on a human-colonised planet, and no genestealers and human forces have met and fought each other. For now.

Michael Zalesny

is dragon going to eventually inhabit one of her dragon suits permanently? Possibly a Titan version of one? lines like "in her draconic opnion" makes me think it might go that way. I for one welcome our new draconic tech goddess.

I feel like Taylor is over-stepping her bounds when speaking to Admiral Oskar here. Now while having so many lovers/hookups whatever so often isn't really good in my opinion. As long as they aren't underage and are willing to sleep with him then it shouldn't be any of Taylors dang business as long as no laws are broken and he keeps it professional while on the job it really shouldn't matter. I mean yes Taylor can say she doesn't like it but all he needs to do is keep it discrete and he'll be fine. But I feel here that Taylor is Overstepping her bounds in the personal lives of another hierarchy even if she is a Living Saint there's limits to what she can interfere with and I feel this shouldn't be an issue for her to address. But this isn't my story and I'm just giving my opinion to it still I feel that scene is a stretch to me and something Taylor wouldn't focus on.

Boris Michenski

I fully agree with this one. But Taylor may also suspect, that he in way or another uses his position to gain sexual favors (and that she does not like at all, as it was said). Plus I suspect this may be related to psychological trauma of original Oskar - his childhood was pretty f***ed up in Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Antony, should we expect something similar here? (after all, eyes are the sames)

If your looking for an admiral of a space navy may I recommended Honor Harrington, the salamander is the best.

Nicholas

Let's not forget that this is Warhammer 40k. Whatever he is doing is bad enough that rumors of it are all over the army and navy within a couple weeks of Admiral Oskar arriving at Pavia and that Taylor could credibly threaten him with execution over it. I seriously doubt that consent (at least by modern standards) is relevant to what he is doing and I strongly suspect that his behavior is ruining lives. Not knowing what he is doing for sure it is hard to say but I suspect if we knew what he was doing we would be asking why she gave him a pass on his past conduct instead of why she was intruding into his private life.

I feel that Assassin's Creed will be the next game for release in Nyx.

Alexander S

Every military has moral standards in addition to legal ones. Today breaking the moral or cultural standards might not get you tossed out, but you'll get sidelined pretty quick. Taylor is overstepping her legal bounds, but not her moral or cultural ones. Likewise she dismissed his legal argument. She's setting the moral standard that she expects and requires out of her high level staff and associates. As a Living Saint, setting moral and cultural standards is well within her authority.

Alexander S

She's so hilariously overused these days that I would rather see literally anyone else from any other setting recommended.

Please no grand admiral thrawn, please!

Alexander S

Now the real work begins again. To return to the seat of her power and once again set shoulder to stone. I am really looking forward to seeing what's next for Nyx and the surrounding systems. To the Segmentum authorities waking up to the sleeping dragon that they have been thoughtlessly poking and to the next round of training.

Forgottenone

I see you giving out hints of Corax return or plans for him to return everywhere, do you really think we will trust you this time?

Antony444

Why would she? Part of the reasons she was 'officially' reclusive in her base was because she couldn't exactly pass as a human without an appropriate body and the likes. Since this problem is not one in this galaxy....

Antony444

The day the Imperial Navy accepts an alien commanding its fleets will be a cold day in hell...the Imperium is one of the rare setting to make the Galactic Empire tolerant of aliens by comparison.

Antony444

This wasn't very much a hint or anything like that. From the Raven Guard's POV, it was mere years that he last saw his Primarch, and he just learned Dorn and the Khan still live. From this point of view, it is not unconscionable to hope his gene-father continues the fight, especially as no body was ever recovered.

Regan

Nice. Will this help the degeneration of Raven guard gene seed?

Antony may I make a suggestion about video games and interactive media, in regards to Nyx population, unemployment and making the Administration more efficient and effective. Recently some games have been used to find tumours or map viruses, by have a lot of people look at data and report their findings for rewards. You could use this process to the unemployed masses of Nyx, look at unclassified data and brut force analysis it for work hours. You could also use this process to find useful analytical skills in the populous and giving employment opportunities, use old contracts for penmanship or technical data for picking out relevant data, etc. If used correctly you could turn the population of Nyx as massive analytical machine, used to brunt force assist in any analytical/technical/statistical problem the Administration or Mechanicus has.

Antony444

I think your question was more 'will it help fight against the degeneration of their gene-seed'? And the answer is yes.

HH is 40 years old in the first novel with 20 years of military training and experience. In the last novel she is over 60, and most people she knows were killed in combat or by terrorists. She is the least merry sue ever.

Antony444

The age is not much of a problem, since people of advance space nations have life-extending treatments. And before the First Battle of Manticore, yes, the story was well-equilibrated to avoid what the author himself calls 'military porn'. It's the books after where the plot, I fear, was a bit inferior in quality. But these remain some of my favourite books, just to be clear.

Did the Crimson Sabres get butterflied away? I think Taylor and them would get along fabulously.

Antony444

Hum, no, the 13th Founding, except the Space Marine Chapters Taylor 'sponsored' is exactly as it should be.
